Dangerous animal infections can have serious consequences, from suffering in animals and humans to economic losses and disruptions in food supply. The Swedish National Veterinary Institute, SVA, is an expert authority that strengthens Sweden's ability to combat animal diseases that pose threats to critical societal functions through diagnostics, research, and advice. We are now looking for employees for the section of serology and virology, which is part of the microbiology department. The section works with a broad and varied diagnostics within veterinary medicine. We perform diagnostic examinations regarding animal diseases and zoonoses. We are a national reference laboratory for several important animal diseases and zoonoses. Our mission also includes monitoring and emergency diagnostics for epizootics and other infectious animal diseases.

Job Responsibilities

We offer you a varied job where you, together with your team, perform serological and virological diagnostics in our serological and virological laboratory (including a biosafety level 3 laboratory). In addition to the diagnostic assignment, the position will involve an in-depth responsibility for virological analysis methodology. You will actively participate in the quality and improvement work of the organization and plan and lead work with method evaluations and other development projects. Within the framework of the position, you will have the opportunity to develop your interest in microbiology and deepen your skills in both traditional laboratory techniques and more modern methods.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with knowledge in the field of virology with an academic degree in a relevant area. You have experience in laboratory virology work. Good knowledge of both spoken and written Swedish and English is required.

As a person, you can easily adapt to changing circumstances and tasks and see problems as a challenge. We expect you to be meticulous and quality-conscious.

Meritorious

Experience working in clean rooms with cell handling such as cell culture, passage, and cell-based analyses is meritorious, as well as work in a biosafety laboratory (BSL3). Experience in an accredited laboratory is desirable.

Conditions

The employment begins with a six-month probationary period.

Through diagnostics, research, and expert knowledge, SVA contributes to good animal health and reduced transmission of infections between animals and humans.
