Midwife Wanted at BB Västerås

At BB Västerås, we are looking for an engaged and curious midwife who wants to help shape the future of postnatal care. You will play a central role in creating security and continuity for new families, both at the maternity ward and in our newly established BB Hemma service, where you meet families in their own home environment. With your skills and commitment, you provide support to the mother, partner, and newborn during one of life’s most significant periods. Here, you will be part of a warm, professional team and have the opportunity to develop, influence, and contribute to a safe and memorable start for families.

Job Responsibilities

In your role, you will have a leadership position within the team and be responsible for the medical care of patients. Together with nursing assistants, you will create security and continuity for mother and child throughout their stay at the maternity ward.

You will meet each family where they are and provide support tailored to their unique needs and circumstances. The focus is on recovery after childbirth and creating safe and stable conditions for the family during their first time together. Your presence, skills, and personal commitment make a difference in the family’s start in life.

You will also have the opportunity to work at our follow-up clinic, breastfeeding clinic, and BB Hemma, where you will follow up and support families in their own homes. Through your leadership and professional approach, you contribute to ensuring that each family feels seen, secure, and supported in their new daily life together.

We have 21 care places and care for women after both normal and more complicated pregnancies and deliveries. We also care for mothers whose children are treated in the neonatal department 69.

Our services also include sampling, screening examinations, and simpler treatments for newborns. We follow WHO's breastfeeding strategy and run a breastfeeding and follow-up clinic for families who have gone home early or need extra support.

With the move to the new emergency hospital in 2029, there will be a merger with our gynecological department, which in the long term may mean opportunities for developed skills in caring for gynecological patients.

About the Workplace

The Women's Clinic at Västerås Hospital conducts both obstetric and gynecological activities and is a central part of the region's specialist care. Every year, we welcome about 2,500 deliveries and offer safe, modern, and person-centered care throughout a woman's life.

The obstetric services are broad and development-oriented, encompassing specialist maternal care, delivery care, and maternity care, as well as breastfeeding and follow-up clinics. An important part of the service is our newly established BB Hemma initiative, which provides the opportunity for postnatal care in the home environment and contributes to a more cohesive care chain for the family.

The gynecological outpatient care is primarily conducted in Västerås and Köping. The clinic also has a gynecological ward focused on both benign and malignant gynecological care, as well as a day ward where both medical and surgical treatments are performed.

The Women's Clinic is characterized by high competence, close collaboration between different professions, and a clear focus on quality, development, and the best interests of the patient.

We value your well-being and job satisfaction, which is why we offer

  • a tailored introduction program to help you feel secure and confident in your professional role
  • opportunities for professional development through internal training
  • a workplace for all stages of life, with flexible working hours within certain frameworks
  • free access to our fully equipped gym
  • wellness grant of 3000 SEK/year

Qualifications

We are looking for a licensed midwife with a genuine commitment to postnatal care and women's health. You have good knowledge of the Swedish language, both spoken and written, and it is an advantage if you are multilingual as we meet patients from various cultural backgrounds.

Previous experience as a midwife, preferably with a focus on postnatal care, is considered an asset. As we work with the Cosmic and Obstetrix journal systems in our daily work, it is beneficial if you have experience with these systems.

The position also includes work within our new BB Hemma service, which makes a B driver's license an advantage. With us, you will have excellent opportunities to develop in your professional role. We value a developing partnership where we support each other, share knowledge, and learn together.

To thrive with us, you are a secure and empathetic person with good collaboration skills. You are flexible and can adapt when circumstances change rapidly. You have an easy time planning and organizing your work, see solutions, and take your own initiatives. In interactions with both patients and colleagues, you are warm, positive, and engaged, with a genuine desire to contribute to good and safe care.
