Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology
University of Gothenburg meets societal challenges with diverse knowledge. 58,000 students and 6,800 employees make the university a large and inspiring workplace. Strong research and attractive education attract researchers and students from all over the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University of Gothenburg contributes to a better future.
At the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology at Sahlgrenska Academy, extensive research and teaching are conducted across large areas of knowledge - from molecule to human. The activities consist of five sections: pharmacology, physiology, health and rehabilitation, clinical neuroscience, and psychiatry and neurochemistry.
The Department of Neuroscience and Physiology is now seeking a postdoctoral researcher, based at the Section of Psychiatry and Neurochemistry.
At the Neurochemical Laboratory within the section, neurochemical research is conducted with the aim of understanding the pathophysiology of Alzheimer's disease. An important goal is to identify protein changes associated with the pathophysiology, so-called biochemical markers, which can be used to understand disease mechanisms, for diagnostics, and to monitor the effects of medications.
Job Responsibilities
The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to the ongoing work of identifying and characterizing new biochemical protein markers relevant to Alzheimer's disease and other neurological conditions, including Parkinson's disease and traumatic brain injuries. The role includes validation and evaluation of new analytical methods as well as conducting clinical neurochemical studies with these techniques.
The job responsibilities include analysis of protein biomarkers in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and blood using immunoassay-based platforms such as Cobas, MSD, Simoa, and NULISA. In addition to laboratory work, administrative tasks related to research projects are included, such as preparing data reports, managing reagent and sample inventories, following up on laboratory equipment maintenance, and assisting in the procurement of reagents and laboratory materials.
Qualifications
Applicants should have an educational background relevant to the position, such as a bachelor's degree in biology or a related field, or equivalent competence acquired through training as a laboratory technician. A master's degree or PhD in a relevant subject area is advantageous. Documented research experience in Alzheimer's disease, acute brain injuries, or protein biomarkers related to these conditions is also advantageous.
It is required that applicants have documented knowledge and practical experience of quantitative protein-based immunoassay methods, as well as a good ability to handle datasets and produce clear and structured data reports. Great importance will be placed on personal suitability, such as good collaboration skills, good organizational ability, accuracy, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic research environment. Very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written, is a requirement.
Employment
The position is a temporary employment for 11 months, 100% full-time, with placement at the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology. Start date: as soon as possible or by agreement.
