Your Responsibilities
We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher for a project studying the effects of lack of parental attachment in newly hatched chicks. You will independently and in collaboration with researchers in the biology department develop methods and conduct experiments aimed at increasing knowledge about the significance of early imprinting on later emotional and cognitive traits in chickens.
As a postdoctoral researcher, you will primarily engage in research. Teaching may also be included in your responsibilities, but no more than one-fifth of your working time.
Your Qualifications
To be eligible for the position of postdoctoral researcher, you must have obtained a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree. Your degree must be obtained by the time the employment decision is made.
It is an advantage if your degree was obtained no more than three years before the application deadline for this position. If there are special reasons, those who obtained their doctoral degree earlier may also be considered, for example, due to various types of statutory leaves.
You should have a doctoral degree in ethology with a focus suitable for the project's purpose and methods. You should have prior experience in ethological work with chickens and good knowledge of Swedish egg production. You should have previous teaching experience in ethology and animal welfare-related courses at the undergraduate and master's levels. You should have documented experience in animal welfare-related work beyond what has been acquired during your doctoral studies.
You are meticulous and independent, with a good ability to work in a research group with colleagues researching similar areas. Furthermore, you have good communication skills both verbally and in writing in both Swedish and English.
Your Workplace
You will work in the Biology Department within AVIAN - the Group for Behavioral Genomics and Physiology. Within this group, you will be part of a team working on ethology and welfare as well as the domestication of chickens.
