Case Officers at Umeå Municipality

Umeå Municipality is committed to sustainable growth and enhancing environmental and sustainability efforts.

We are now looking for four case officers who want to contribute to creating a sustainable environment for all residents. With us, you will be part of a team in the Environmental and Health Protection Department, where we make a difference together.

We work based on the municipality's development strategy for water and sewage – a long-term plan to ensure good water status, secure drinking water supply, and create cost-effective, sustainable sewage solutions. One part of the strategy is a plan for individual sewage management with the goal that all small sewage systems in the municipality will meet the applicable purification requirements according to the Environmental Code by 2032.

Supervision of small sewage systems is therefore a central part of our work. The unit is divided into two workgroups: one that works with supervision and one that works with assessment, processing notifications, applications, and exemptions.

About the position

As a case officer, you will plan, schedule, and conduct inspections of small sewage facilities and be responsible for the follow-up work. Decisions are made by an environmental inspector. Initially, you will receive support from an experienced colleague until you feel confident in carrying out the tasks independently. The work is varied, with both field days and office work.

The job may also include advising and providing service to individuals and entrepreneurs via phone, as well as other simpler administrative tasks.

You will be part of a team specialized in small sewage systems, where collaboration and knowledge exchange are a natural part of everyday life. As a case officer, you work independently but with support from a regular environmental inspector on site.

Who are we looking for?

You have:

  • completed at least two years of studies in the Environmental and Health Protection program or equivalent environmental education that includes administrative law
  • good knowledge of the Swedish language, both spoken and written
  • a valid driver's license (B).

We place great importance on your personal qualities and suitability. Since the work involves many contacts with both individuals and entrepreneurs, it is important that you are communicative and service-oriented. You are curious, eager to learn new things, and have an easy time building good relationships and collaborating with others. We are looking for someone who has a good ability to plan and prioritize your work and who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment where you handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Why choose us?

With us, you will receive:

  • a meaningful job where you make a difference for the environment and people's health
  • valuable experience of working with public authority
  • guidance throughout the summer period
  • a team that supports and inspires each other

Employment Information

The positions are for a specific fixed-term full-time employment from June 1 to August 31, 2026, with the possibility of extension. There may also be an opportunity to start the position as early as May.

The assignment requires that you can work on-site in Umeå.
