Environmental Planning Officer

At the Environmental and Health Protection Department, we work to ensure that everyone in Umeå Municipality lives in a healthy environment and that Umeå's growth goals are achieved with social, ecological, cultural, and economic sustainability.

We collaborate with others to ensure that the municipality and various operators consider environmental and health protection issues in urban planning and daily operations. We actively participate in the development of overarching strategy and goal documents within the environmental field and drive several different environmental and climate projects. We are now looking for a new colleague to the Environmental Development unit, which is one of several units within the Environmental and Health Protection Department at the Urban Planning Administration.

About the job

As an environmental planning officer, you are part of a team with an important mission to promote sustainable development with a particular focus on environmental issues in urban planning.

Your role includes:

• Providing planning materials and analyses within the environmental, nature, and health protection areas and monitoring environmental, nature, and health impacts
• Participating in working groups within urban planning such as detailed planning, comprehensive planning, and building permit matters
• Preparing materials for needs assessments and environmental impact assessments.
• Working on development projects and monitoring the goals and steering documents of the operations
• Processing cases, opinions, and referrals within the environmental field
• Providing information and decision-making materials to the Environmental and Health Protection Committee

An important part of the role is to work to integrate environmental, nature, and health protection issues into urban planning and to work on information and knowledge dissemination to the municipality's citizens, as well as collaborating in networks locally, regionally, and nationally.

About you

To succeed and thrive in the role of environmental planning officer, you should have good communication skills in both spoken and written Swedish and the ability to present constructive feedback based on facts and clear materials. You enjoy working both independently and collaboratively with colleagues to achieve common goals. You are responsive, cooperative, and have a development-oriented and solution-focused approach. You should also have a good ability to plan and prioritize among various tasks and enjoy handling multiple tasks simultaneously.

We want you to have:

• Several years of experience working with the Environmental Code and the Planning and Building Act, as well as other relevant legislation.
• Several years of experience working with urban planning from an environmental and nature perspective
• A valid driver's license (B).
• A university degree in a natural science field, or other education at the university level that the employer deems relevant for the position.

It is an advantage if you also have:

• Experience working with MKN for outdoor air
• Experience working with noise in urban planning
• Experience working with action programs
• Knowledge in GIS
