Job Responsibilities
We are looking for a student assistant who is interested in participating in and contributing to the department's work by strengthening our GIS-based data. The data aims to simplify the monitoring and prioritization of various areas with soil contamination.
You will gain insight into the supervisory work and contribute to the development of an efficient authority. You will gain practical experience in how GIS can be used within an authority and have the opportunity to suggest improvements in work methods and the benefits of GIS.
Examples of job responsibilities;
- Inputting data from our operational system into GIS layers
- Benchmarking with other municipalities
- Developing proposals for improving existing work methods
- Developing proposals for new work methods where GIS can promote, facilitate, or streamline the authority's work
As a student assistant in Malmö city, you will have the opportunity to practice your academic knowledge alongside your studies with assignments within our operations. We offer you relevant and qualified work experience, valuable contacts, and salary. The working hours can amount to approximately 10-15 hours per week.
Qualifications
The student assistant program is aimed at those who have completed at least 60 higher education credits and are still studying throughout the assignment period.
You are likely studying IT with a focus on GIS or digitalization. It is an advantage if you also have studies in the environmental field, but it is not a requirement.
As a person, you are curious, meticulous, structured, and good at finding new solutions. You should also be self-driven and interested in making new contacts and collaborating with others.
About the workplace
At the Department of Environmental and Health Protection, we work to protect both the environment and human health. We are responsible for supervision according to the Environmental Code for, among other things, housing, industries, waste, water, and contaminated land. We check permits and ensure that conditions are followed, handle notifications, and respond to referrals. Every year, our environmental inspectors conduct hundreds of inspections – from heavy industry with hazardous waste to smaller workshops and dental clinics. The department consists of about 60 employees, divided into a unit for health protection and two for environmental supervision. Through collaboration, preventive work, and good service, we make the greatest possible benefit for the residents of Malmö.
The mission of the Environmental Administration is to improve the environment and safeguard human health. We lead and coordinate Malmö city's environmental and climate work, conduct supervision according to the Environmental Code and the Food Act, and drive the transition towards a more sustainable city. Through supervision, advice, and strategic environmental work, we make a difference for Malmö and the planet.

Job Information
Employment type: Temporary
Scope: Hourly paid. The assignment covers approximately 120 hours during the period of March to May.
Working hours: As a student assistant, you will work about 10-15 hours a week during the day. The working hours are largely flexible. You will agree with your supervisor on working hours that can be combined with your studies.
