Are you a nurse with an interest in child and adolescent psychiatry?

Ward 48 offers a qualified care environment with a focus on collaboration, development, and a good working environment.

Your workplace

Ward 48 is an inpatient ward for children and adolescents with severe psychiatric issues, such as severe eating disorders, severe self-harming behaviors, affective disorders, psychoses, and high suicide risk. The ward is located in the Psychiatry House in Karlstad and works closely with other units within Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the eating disorders unit, and Child and Adolescent Medicine.

The ward has four to five beds available and we have new, fresh facilities that are child-friendly. The ward includes a ward doctor, ST doctors, nurses, a care-coordinating social worker, a psychologist, a dietitian, as well as nursing assistants and caregivers who rotate on day/evening/weekend shifts. We have close staffing and see a benefit for our families in that we have time for good psychiatric care.

With us, you will:

  • Be involved in the development of our processes in the ward.
  • Make a difference for children and adolescents in need of individualized support in their daily lives.
  • Experience a very varied, stimulating, and developing job as well as regular further education and supervision that in turn increases care quality.
  • Receive continuous case supervision.
  • Participate in self-protection training three times a year.
  • Have an individualized onboarding in our existing acute care operations.
  • Have opportunities for personal areas of responsibility related to existing care.
  • Work on a fixed rolling 10-week hybrid schedule. The schedule has been developed together with the staff group, and we are proud of the work we have done together.

Your tasks

With us, you will perform medication follow-ups in close collaboration with doctors as well as standard medication management. As a nurse, you will be responsible for care and participate in treatment interventions for patients and their families. All staff in the ward work with skill training and have a low-arousal approach. The work also includes collaborating with neighboring care providers, developing care plans, and conducting assessment interviews.

The ward actively works with systematic work environment efforts where everyone is involved. You will have the opportunity to influence the working methods both as a whole and at a detailed level. Additionally, you have the opportunity to spread a positive outlook and to create conditions for good work that is permeated by this. Together, we strive for the best possible care.

The position is a temporary position for at least one year.

Your knowledge and competencies

We are looking for a licensed nurse, with a specialization in psychiatry and/or child and adolescent care being meritorious. Experience working in child and adolescent psychiatry, adult psychiatry, pediatric medicine, or eating disorder care is also meritorious.

We see that you collaborate well with others, listen, communicate, and resolve conflicts in a constructive manner. You create contacts and maintain relationships. You ensure that messages are conveyed and that expectations are clear for all parties involved. You plan, organize, and prioritize work effectively. You are willing to bring ideas and new approaches and have innovative thinking that can be implemented in practice and lead to results. Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability.
