Speech Therapist at the Speech Therapy Unit

The Speech Therapy Unit is a regional operation with approximately 25 employees, several of whom have specialist competence in various areas. We investigate, assess, and treat voice, speech, language, and swallowing difficulties. Our speech therapists work in both inpatient and outpatient specialist care and are present at all hospitals in the region. We also conduct speech therapy activities at day rehabilitation centers in several locations in the region, as well as at the regional rehabilitation department 70 in Sandviken. In addition to this permanent position, there is also the opportunity for a fixed-term substitute position lasting about a year, as one of our colleagues will go on parental leave. The substitute position will be located in both Gävle and Sandviken.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

We offer you varied tasks where you will primarily work with adult patients in the field of neuro speech therapy. The work involves independent responsibility for the investigation, diagnosis, and treatment of individuals with neurologically-based communication and swallowing difficulties. The work can take place in both outpatient and inpatient care, and home visits may occur.

We work regionally where we have regular professional meetings within each diagnostic area for experience exchange, development work, and quality assurance. With us, you will receive regular supervision from an experienced colleague, as well as introduction and guidance tailored to your level of experience. Working hours are daytime, Monday to Friday with flexible hours.

Main Job Responsibilities

  • conduct linguistic investigations and swallowing assessments
  • plan, implement, and evaluate speech therapy treatment and rehabilitation
  • design individual rehabilitation plans
  • provide support and advice to patients, relatives, and other professional categories
  • participate in teams and lecture about our patient groups to other professional groups.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who is confident in their professional role and enjoys a varied and developing job where you work both independently and in close collaboration with others. For you, it is natural to continuously develop in your profession, and you have a clear interest in working evidence-based.

In the role of speech therapist, you should:
• be a licensed speech therapist

It is meritorious, but not a requirement if you also:
• have experience working in neuro speech therapy, i.e., aphasia, dysphagia, and dysarthria
• have experience working with patients with head and neck cancer
• have experience working with patients with tracheostomy
