Would you like to do your residency at one of Sweden's best residency locations? At a hospital where you have a lot of responsibility but also good support? Where you are part of the team and missed when you are not there? Where you can make a difference? Then you should apply for residency with us!
We continue our work to be Sweden's best residency location in the coming years and we want you to be a part of it. We constantly strive to maintain high quality in education and have a welcoming atmosphere to ensure safety and development in the role of a physician.
In Eksjö, there is one of Sweden's largest regional hospitals. Here, there is a good combination of highly specialized care and broad care, allowing doctors to see a lot and thus gain a solid foundation of experience.
Our hospital is in a development phase where we are building and investing for the future. The hospital is just the right size, not so big that you don't recognize most colleagues, and they recognize you! In recent years, large parts of the hospital have been renovated, and in the autumn of 2025, a completely new emergency department, urgent care, UVA, etc. opened.
We offer you
We offer thirteen residency blocks starting in September and December. The residency blocks cover 21 months. Your residency begins with introductory days. You have four elective weeks during your residency to see different operations in the region. You can choose two of those weeks for an observership in Sabadell, Spain.
- 2-5 days of external courses
- 8 days of regional joint training
- 1 week of general introduction
- At least 2 hours of clinical teaching per week
- Personal supervisor
- Paid leave, conference fees, travel, and accommodation for the residency conference
As an employee of Region Jönköping County, there are also several benefits to take advantage of. In addition to a gym, a large restaurant, and free open healthcare, there are numerous staff activities in the form of trips, excursions, and similar joint activities. Please read more about the benefits here: Benefits (http://www.rjl.se/jobb-och-karriar/Jobba-hos-oss/Formaner/)
Your qualifications
You who are applying must have a medical degree by the planned start of the residency block. Foreign applicants must have permission from the National Board of Health and Welfare to do residency in Sweden and documented language skills corresponding to at least C1 level in Swedish according to the Council of Europe’s scale.
Our goal is to have a competent group with diverse characteristics, which we believe benefits both the residents and our hospital. Our selection criteria are a combination of merits, interviews, and references. Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability.
Application and interview
Your application should include:
- Cover letter
- CV
- Transcript from LADOK/medical degree certificate
- At least 2 clinical references
- Photo
Foreign applicants must also attach the National Board of Health and Welfare's decision on permission to do residency in Sweden, as well as documented certificates at the requested language level.
If you are offered a residency position, we will request a criminal record extract.
We aim to have a quick recruitment process where interviews are conducted continuously after applications have been received. Admission decisions will be made in close proximity to the application deadline. Responses from residents are requested within a maximum of two days.
