School Social Worker to Västerås City
Västerås City has removed the personal letter from the application process. We do this to achieve a better and fairer recruitment process. When you submit your application, you will be asked to answer a number of questions that will become an important part of our selection work.
We deepen the collaboration between schools and social services through school social teams. School social teams are a new initiative. We have previously started work at two middle schools and one high school, and now we are expanding with two additional primary-middle schools and one high school. Take the opportunity to be involved from the beginning and shape this important work.
Your Responsibilities
Your mission is to work together with the rest of the team to enable children and adolescents with norm-breaking behavior to receive interventions to reverse a negative development and achieve a functioning school life. Working within the school environment allows for building trust and confidence to reach parents of children and adolescents who would otherwise refuse assistance through formal reporting.
You are part of a school social team and provide the therapeutic competence and knowledge about child and youth work within social services as a whole. Your individual assignments come through the student health team, of which you are a part, and you are also proactive in identifying children and adolescents at risk of continued norm-breaking behavior and criminality.
You work with individual children, adolescents, and their parents within the framework of interventions without means testing (new SoL). In the individual-focused work, you provide interventions such as skill training for children and adolescents, and parent education/family treatment content for parents. You will also participate in the general school social work at the school to build relationships.
You participate in the SSPF work (school, social services, police, and leisure) and will be a bridge-builder between social services, schools, and other entities such as family centers. It is important that the school social worker becomes a known and trusted person for students and parents, and therefore you participate in the school's general school social activities.
Your Competence
You have a degree in social work and experience in psychosocial work with children and adolescents with norm-breaking behavior and their parents. It is an advantage if you also have experience in therapeutic interventions. You have good knowledge of social services' work within the area of children and youth and a clear interest and commitment to work with this target group.
You find it easy to establish a professional relationship with adolescents and parents. You are confident in your professional role and can clearly and distinctly contribute a family treatment perspective to the work with students for teachers, EHT staff, and management. You collaborate by highlighting your assessments and what you can contribute in relevant matters. Additionally, you are unpretentious and want to be involved in the school's general social work, as you understand that it provides opportunities to connect with the children and adolescents who need us.
We Offer
You are part of open care for children and adolescents and thus have the opportunity to collaborate closely with staff with various competencies in treatment. You will participate in working group meetings with other school social workers, individual guidance with team leaders, and external supervision. Your introduction will be tailored based on your previous experience, and you will have the opportunity for professional development in areas necessary for the role.
Here, you will be part of something bigger! With warmth and respect, we show initiative in both big and small matters. We live our values in our interactions with each other and those we serve. Every day, all year round, we ensure that Västerås functions. Together with your approximately 11,500 colleagues throughout the city, you will have Sweden's most important job.
