Seasonal Museum Hosts at the Maritime Museum in Karlskrona, Summer 2026

The National Museums of Maritime, Transport, and Military History work with cultural heritage with the vision of broadening people's worldview through knowledge, experiences, and engagement.

The authority has a well-integrated sustainability effort and also aims to inspire others to act for a sustainable future. We are a museum authority that operates and develops the Maritime Museum, the Maritime Historical Museum, the Vasa Museum, the Wreck Museum, and the Railway Museum. From January 1, 2026, the military historical museums, the Army Museum and the Air Force Museum, will also become part of the authority. The authority will employ approximately 390 staff members.

About the Positions

As a host at the Maritime Museum, you welcome visitors to a unique environment where Sweden's maritime history is in focus. You are the museum's face to the public, and your reception is crucial for our guests' experience. You are part of a larger team where you work in one of three areas. In the role of museum host, you are also part of the public safety work and are included in the museum's evacuation organization.

  • Entrance/Shop: In the museum's entrance, you handle tickets and inform about the museum's exhibitions and activities. You also manage incoming emails and phone calls. In our museum shop, you work with the sale of souvenirs, literature, and marine-themed decor. Keeping good order and restocking items is part of the daily shop work.
  • Family: You staff our family activities where you welcome and instruct children and adults in various marine activities. You are responsible for restocking materials, cleaning, and maintaining general order throughout the day.
  • Exhibition: You are available to answer visitors' questions and ensure a welcoming environment in our exhibitions and on our ships. The work also includes managing queues and entry to the submarine HMS Neptun. You work variedly indoors and outdoors, and some physically demanding tasks are involved.

Your Skills and Experience

For all positions, you must have completed high school education. You have relevant experience in hosting and reception within the tourism industry or from other service professions that we consider equivalent. You speak and write good Swedish and English. To work in our entrance/shop, you must also have good cash handling experience.

For all positions, it is advantageous if you have knowledge of Karlskrona as a tourist and World Heritage destination. It is also advantageous if you speak German or Polish.

For work in our entrance/shop, it is advantageous if you have previous experience in personal sales within a shop. For work in our family activities, it is advantageous if you have previous experience leading activities for children or families. For work in our exhibitions, it is advantageous if you have knowledge of the Maritime Museum's subject area, acquired through higher education, military service, or the Naval Reserve.

To thrive in the role of museum host, you should be outgoing, communicative, and have a natural sense of service. You enjoy working in an intense environment with many people around you and can easily adapt to a varied operation.

More About Us

The Maritime Museum is one of the largest tourist destinations in southeastern Sweden, with over 200,000 visitors each year. The overall responsibility of the Maritime Museum is the history of the Swedish Navy and military maritime cultural heritage work. The public and education unit consists of 16 employees who work together to provide our visitors with a memorable and knowledge-enhancing museum experience, whether on-site at the museum or digitally.

Employment

The position is a part-time employment during the summer period from June to August. The work is scheduled (rolling schedule) and the extent is approximately 25 hours/week, weekdays and weekends. We prioritize applicants who can work the entire period. We also welcome those who can work extra based on the needs of the operation. Mandatory training days will be conducted before the start of the work period.

Salary

Hourly wage, vacation pay, and OB.
