The Fire Service is part of Luleå Municipality and has the mission to ensure that people living and working in Luleå are safe and secure. We have about 100 employees; firefighters, fire engineers, fire inspectors, and administrators. We respond to approximately 1100 alarms per year and are a national chemical resource, having recently signed an agreement with SMC (Fire Extinguishing Central) to handle fires in oil tanks. Luleå Fire Service aims to be at the forefront and is undergoing a transformation both organizationally and in how we work effectively with the resources we have available.

Being a firefighter in Luleå is a broad and varied assignment as we have significant variation between the seasons and the challenges they bring. We are now looking for someone who wants to be part of our team and contribute to our continued development!

We offer you

  • The opportunity to work on developing a cutting-edge Fire Service
  • Passionate and driven colleagues
  • The chance to work in new, beautiful, and well-equipped facilities
  • Access to a new and fresh gym at the workplace
  • The opportunity to contribute to change and development

Job Responsibilities

As a firefighter, you will have a varied job in our full-time force where you primarily work in shift duty. Your tasks will include handling fires, various types of accidents, and preparing, executing, and evaluating rescue operations. The work also consists of training, vehicle and equipment maintenance, and accident prevention measures, as well as physical training since the job requires good physical condition. We have good access to training opportunities at the Fire Service's training center (RUC).

In addition to the basic operational work, you may also work on developing our operations in areas such as regulatory supervision, training activities, or learning from interventions.

The working hours are full-time, primarily shift work 42h/week, but the hours may be scheduled differently if needed. As we are in an expansive phase, you will initially not be placed in a specific shift team but will be scheduled where the need arises.

Qualifications

To succeed in the role of Firefighter, you need to have good physical ability, swimming skills, and an interest in training as you will face situations that require good fitness. Furthermore, we expect you to have education in Accident Prevention (SMO), GRIB, or equivalent older education, such as full-time firefighter training or experience deemed equivalent by the employer. A B and C driver's license is required, as well as the ability to communicate fluently in Swedish, both spoken and written. In addition, you should have a good ability to collaborate in a team, build trusting relationships, and adapt to different situations and contexts. You are someone who gets things done and takes responsibility both during alarms and in daily work at the station. Furthermore, you have a good initiative where you can independently drive issues and work within various areas of responsibility.

In addition to the above requirements, we see it as desirable if you have the following:

  • Knowledge/experience in areas such as technology and IT, healthcare, regulatory bodies, or skilled trades
  • Professional experience as a Firefighter

When applying, we ask that you send a valid treadmill test according to AFS 2005:6 §51 and a certificate for either lifeguard level 1 or gold buoy to [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]). The certificate must not be older than 1 year.

In the process, we will have two testing days where we assess your physical ability and suitability for the position through interviews. We apply drug testing and request a background check during the hiring process.

The Fire Service has traditionally been a male-dominated workplace, but we strive for diversity and an even gender distribution. Therefore, we welcome all applicants who meet our requirements.
