The Luleå operational area is the northernmost part of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service and includes the prisons in Luleå and Haparanda as well as the remand facility in Luleå. The largest professional group is prison officers, but we also have healthcare professionals, administrative staff, educators, production leaders, and more. In the prisons, inmates are engaged in education, various treatment programs, or the prison's wood production. You can easily reach the Luleå prison and remand facility by public transport, and if you drive, you can park in our staff parking. The Haparanda prison is a five-minute walk from Haparanda station.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As a prison officer, you will be part of a team where you have daily contact with the client. The tasks at the prison/remand facility are varied: care, surveillance, searching, and security work are mixed with release planning and conversation/motivation work. Work at the remand facility is often routine-based and focused on care and security tasks. Clients may be remanded for long periods without meeting anyone other than their lawyer and the staff at the remand facility, which places special demands on you as a prison officer.

Working as a prison officer means you can make a difference for other people and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values of a humane view of people, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop.

You will start your employment at the workplace where you will receive an introduction over three weeks. After a period of service, you will be offered a place in the mandatory basic training for prison officers, which lasts for 8 weeks. You will receive a salary during the entire training period, which takes place in another location. During the probationary period, ongoing assessments will be conducted regarding your eligibility for permanent employment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Your personal qualities are important to us. As a prison officer, you need to be secure, stable, and have good self-awareness. Since you will be working with your colleagues to run the operation, you need to have good teamwork skills and the ability to communicate clearly. Good judgment and integrity are required in your professional practice. We are each other's work environment, and therefore you should have good physical condition that enables you to act physically when the situation requires it. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

We are looking for someone who has:

• Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment.
• A completed upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant.
• Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing.
• Good computer skills.

It is an advantage if you have:

• Work experience from the service industry.
• Work experience from prison or security work.
• Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management.
• Relevant language skills.
• A valid driver's license (B).
