The Swedish Customs has the mission to stop or seriously disrupt organized crime and to prevent the illegal importation of narcotics and doping agents, alcohol, tobacco, weapons, and other goods that threaten life, health, and the environment.

The Swedish Customs mainly consists of the control department, customs crime department, intelligence department, and revenue department, and the work extends through the entire chain from intelligence, analysis, and control to completed preliminary investigation.

About the Position

Within the Swedish Customs' crime prevention efforts, the primary task of the preliminary investigation leader is to lead investigations of minor offenses included in the Customs' crime catalog. The work is conducted individually, and you will have several cases ongoing simultaneously while being responsible from start to finish. The position also includes reviewing and handling reported cases that will be assigned to a public prosecutor.

As a preliminary investigation leader at the Swedish Customs' crime prevention unit, you will work with:

  • Active preliminary investigation leadership to shorten investigation time.
  • Guiding staff in connection with reporting crimes.
  • Coaching and guiding the investigators assisting you in your investigations. Making decisions on coercive measures.
  • Reviewing compiled preliminary investigation protocols before they are submitted to the public prosecutor.

You will also act as a customs prosecutor, which means you will issue penalty orders and possibly represent cases in court regarding minor offenses where the penalty is evidently a fine. Additionally, you will make decisions on confiscation.

The position requires flexibility, which means that you and the other preliminary investigation leaders in the north will also investigate crimes. The workload and needs will determine the extent of the tasks you perform.

Are You the One We Are Looking For?

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Swedish Customs' crime prevention training or other education deemed relevant by the Customs
  • Experience in working with criminal investigations
  • Completed preliminary investigation leader training
  • Good knowledge of Swedish and English, as well as a good ability to express yourself well in speech and writing
  • Swedish citizenship
  • Driver's license, at least class B

It is an advantage if you have:

  • Experience in investigating and/or leading preliminary investigations of crimes that fall within the Customs' crime catalog.
  • Experience working in the Customs' reporting system BUS.

Employment form: The position is a permanent employment and begins with a 6-month probationary period, and individual salary setting applies.

Domestic and international travel may occur.

Office working hours apply. The position may involve inconvenient working hours and on-call duties both evenings and weekends.
