About International English School Kista
IES Kista is one of 46 schools within the International English School in Sweden. We have around 650 students in preschool and grades 1, as well as grades 4–9, and our school is characterized by high academic ambitions, safety, and respect. About the position
We are looking for someone who wants to work as a social pedagogue in middle and high school (grades 4–9). As a social pedagogue, you will support students throughout the school day, both in the classroom and during breaks. The job involves providing support in school routines and contributing to maintaining a positive, safe, and secure environment in the school.
The tasks of the social pedagogue may vary. What your tasks are will depend on the needs of the students at the school. You will constantly be faced with new situations, meet new students with unique needs, and you will constantly need to use all your knowledge to find the best way to support them. This job description gives an idea of the tasks that may occur.
As a student assistant, you may work with:
- Providing support to students to develop positive relationships with other students and staff.
- Contributing to implementing school routines to create safety and security within the schools.
- Helping students understand and follow school rules.
- Providing support to students who may need help moving, taking medication, etc.
- Providing practical help with meals and changing clothes as needed.
- Helping students get study time so they can follow lessons and gain the knowledge they need.
- Study techniques (e.g., reading pictures, headlines, and then the text).
- Providing support during activities that occur outside the classroom, such as during breaks, on excursions, and study visits, as well as in the changing room.
A social pedagogue is not only active during teaching. In your role as a student assistant, you usually follow the students throughout the entire school day, including leisure activities. This means that you not only collaborate with teachers but also with school and leisure staff as well as with parents. Tasks such as motivational and coaching conversations, mentorship may occur, as well as short-term substitutes. Tasks may also include helping to maintain order in hallways and common areas.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a genuine interest in working with youth.
- Is calm, secure, and has the ability to create good relationships.
- Is flexible and has an easy time collaborating with both students and colleagues.
- Experience from working in schools, after-school care, or similar is an advantage, but not a requirement.

Working hours are on an hourly basis and are scheduled between 08:00-16:30 unless otherwise agreed. Social pedagogues, like teachers, have confidentiality and mandatory reporting obligations to social services if there are concerns about a student. In case of uncertainty, the school's counselors can be consulted.
