Environmental Protection Officer at the County Administrative Board of Kalmar

In the environmental unit, we are 21 employees working with supervision and permit assessment of environmentally hazardous activities, as well as supervision and grant issues related to contaminated areas. Our responsibilities also include supervisory guidance in these areas and supervision according to Seveso legislation.

The employment is for 12 months, with a desired start date as soon as possible.

Job Responsibilities

As an environmental protection officer, you will work with the assessment of environmentally hazardous activities. In the assessment of environmentally hazardous activities, you will be responsible for preparing cases by drafting the County Administrative Board's statement to the Environmental Assessment Delegation and the Environmental Court. You will participate in consultations with businesses seeking permits and write decisions regarding environmental impact in connection with this.

The work involves a lot of dialogue with operators, municipalities, other authorities, and private individuals. Participation in other units' cases in environmental protection issues is part of the job, as is handling other application and notification cases.

The work as an environmental protection officer spans many different subject and competence areas. Support in the work is provided by experienced colleagues, lawyers, and a structured and goal-oriented working method. There may be opportunities to adapt the role and tasks according to competence.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who is structured, meticulous, analytical, and has a good ability to work independently and drive their own cases. You have good judgment, can make correct assessments from a holistic perspective, and can clearly and simply justify decisions made. You also have the ability to review extensive documentation and can see the bigger picture in complex contexts and determine which issues are most important based on our areas of responsibility.

Since the work involves both internal and external contacts, it is important that you can easily create good relationships, are good at collaborating, and feel comfortable in contacts with those who may be affected by our decisions in various matters. You are pedagogical, clear, and express yourself well in Swedish, both orally and in writing.

We are looking for someone with an academic education in environmental/natural sciences or other education that we can assess as equivalent. You have good knowledge of the Environmental Code and its application, as well as other environmental legislation.

Requirements:

• Academic education in environmental/natural sciences/engineering relevant to the tasks or equivalent that we consider comparable
• Good knowledge of environmental legislation and environmentally hazardous activities
• Driver's license B

Meritorious:

• Current experience of working with authority enforcement according to the Environmental Code
• Current experience of working with the assessment of environmentally hazardous activities
