Do you want to contribute to better health for everyone?

We are looking for up to two research assistants to work on the project Managing Equity in Menopausal and Perimenopausal Healthcare in Sweden (MEMPHIS), led by principal investigator Dr. Alexis Cullen.

The project is part of Professor Ellenor Mittendorfen-Rutz's research group (MENTE) within the Department of Insurance Medicine, Karolinska Institute. Our group conducts world-leading research at the intersection of psychiatric epidemiology and insurance medicine. We offer a stimulating scientific environment and the opportunity to collaborate with other research groups at Karolinska Institute and internationally.

Your Role

The MEMPHIS project aims to address significant knowledge gaps regarding the burden and treatment of menopausal and perimenopausal disorders (MPD), with a particular focus on the relationship between the menopausal transition and mental disorders. The project includes registry-based studies using data from the nationwide Swedish registry to investigate healthcare utilization for MPD and evidence synthesis methods, systematic reviews examining the relationship between menopausal transition/treatment and the onset, worsening, and treatment of mental disorders. You will work on one or both of these studies and contribute to core activities including protocol development, data management, and statistical analysis (registry-based studies), study screening, data extraction, and data synthesis (evidence synthesis), manuscript preparation, and dissemination of results (both studies). The position is for a maximum of 12 months full-time, but there is an option for part-time work. The work is performed on-site at the office in Solna.

Who are you?

We are looking for someone with a master's degree in public health, epidemiology, psychology, or a related field. Necessary skills include documented practical experience in activities described in (a) and/or (b):

  • (a) Advanced epidemiological methods using data from administrative databases or electronic health records where the candidate has direct experience in database construction and management, definition and creation of variables, development and implementation of statistical analysis plans.
  • (b) Designing and conducting systematic/comprehensive reviews where the candidate has been responsible for developing and implementing search strategies in electronic databases, screening studies to establish eligibility criteria, data extraction, and assessments of study quality, narrative and/or statistical synthesis of study funding.

You are expected to have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (additional language skills in Swedish are desirable), be proficient in using Microsoft Word and Excel (or equivalent), have experience using statistical software (Stata or R), and be able to work both independently and as part of a team. Previous experience working within an academic institution, performing complex statistical analyses, and contributing to manuscript writing is highly desirable. You must also have experience communicating research findings to non-academic audiences through traditional and non-traditional media formats.
