Unit Manager for the Grant Support Unit
The Swedish Agency for Youth and Civil Society (MUCF) is a government agency that develops knowledge about the living conditions of young people and the conditions for civil society. Our vision is an open and inclusive Sweden with good conditions for youth and civil society.
MUCF has been tasked by the government to work towards achieving the goals of youth policy and civil society policy. We do this by developing, collecting, and disseminating knowledge, as well as contributing to the coordination of state efforts. We collaborate with authorities, municipalities, regions, and organizations in civil society, and distribute state grants.
As of January 1, 2026, the agency's mandate will expand as we take over the responsibilities currently held by the Swedish Agency for Support to Faith Communities (SST) and the responsibility for state tasks within minority policy. This means that MUCF will become an even more important actor in strengthening democracy, promoting participation, and contributing to an inclusive society.
MUCF has offices in Växjö and, starting January 2026, also in Stockholm.
Description
The Grant Support Unit is part of the Department for State Grants and consists of approximately 15 employees.
Job Responsibilities
The role of unit manager at the Grant Support Unit involves responsibility for the development of the agency's in-depth review of state grants, focusing on quality, legal certainty, and ensuring that grants are used for their intended purpose. The unit also strengthens civil society's ability to apply for state grants through training, clear information, and legal guidance, as well as producing government reports on the results and effects of grant giving.
As a unit manager, you have personnel, operational, budget, and work environment responsibilities for the unit's employees. You take responsibility for employer policy and apply it for the best interest of the operations. You contribute with clear leadership where you coach and inspire your employees, clarify the mission, and contribute to a good work culture.
For the role, you need to quickly familiarize yourself with legal issues, democratic conditions, and the regulations governing the agency's grants.
Collaboration is an important part of the assignment. You collaborate with other grant-giving authorities, represent MUCF in networks and dialogues, and work closely with the department head on the development of support functions and results and impact work.
The role also includes environmental monitoring, contacts with the media and the public, as well as cross-agency assignments. You are responsible for the unit's planning, priorities, resource allocation, and follow-up, and lead the unit's long-term development.
The unit is located in Växjö, and employees primarily work on-site. Therefore, presence in the office is required four to five days a week, as well as flexibility to adjust the calendar at short notice when necessary.
The employment may involve travel within Sweden.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who has:
- an academic degree in a relevant field
- at least 2 years of managerial or leadership experience
- very good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish
It is an advantage if you have:
- experience working within government operations
- previously worked with state grants or in-depth reviews, preferably in economic crime prevention or investigation of grant fraud.
- knowledge of administrative law
- extensive experience in case management
- experience in state grant giving
- the ability to make independent decisions and explain them both internally and externally
- experience and comfort in handling media issues and preparing materials for them
- experience in MUCF's policy areas
- experience of engagement in associations
As a person, you work goal- and results-oriented, both in the short and long term, and have the ability to independently drive and take responsibility for development in your area. Your working style is characterized by structure and good organizational skills, as well as a habit of following routines and ensuring order and quality in your work. In leadership, you show courage by making well-founded decisions and standing behind the decisions made.
To succeed in the role, you need to be trustworthy, communicative, and able to create good relationships and collaborations easily. A secure and stable leadership with good judgment is important, as is the ability to act as a role model and work based on the state value framework with respect for the equal worth of all people.
You create well-functioning teams through an inspiring, solution-focused, and present leadership. The responsibilities of the role also include sharing knowledge, communicating clearly, and balancing different needs and perspectives, even during periods of high tempo or changing conditions.
