Field of Activity: Heart and Lung Diseases

We are Akademiska sjukhuset – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a regional hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer care to two million people in central Sweden. There is always something happening here – a new life is born, a grandmother is operated on, a colleague is celebrated as a hero. With us, you will experience both tough challenges and fantastic events, in a strong community with colleagues. See parts of our reality in our photo exhibition; akademiskafotoutstallning.se (https://akademiskafotoutstallning.se). Welcome with your application!

Our Operations

Thoracic surgery is part of Akademiska sjukhuset's specialized clinic for surgical treatment of thoracic diseases. Here, diseases of the heart, lungs, and major blood vessels are operated on. The most common diagnoses are coronary artery disease, valve disorders, aortic aneurysms, and lung tumors. We also perform ECMO treatments for indications of respiratory failure and heart failure.

Our operating department is a modern and high-tech unit with five operating rooms for conventional thoracic surgery and an intervention room for catheter-based interventions, as well as a room for robotic surgery (100 house). We have close collaboration across the entire field of operations and a shared responsibility for the entire care chain, which allows us to plan, implement, and evaluate the entire patient flow. We work with short decision-making paths, where long-term thinking and quality are key principles.

At thoracic surgery, you will have the chance to become part of a highly specialized and exciting operation where you will work in a very efficient organization with a professional team that together delivers specialist care with very high medical quality.

To get an insight into our operations, please watch this film, Working in Thoracic (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwG-K1N34tQ).

Your Mission

As an anesthetist nurse with us, you are an important part of our skilled team where we support and help each other in the operating room work.

We want you to focus on the patient and be responsible and motivated in your work. With us, it is important that you find it easy to collaborate with your colleagues and other contacts we meet in our work. Contributing your specific expertise and the thoughts and ideas that come from it are important pieces for us in the ongoing development work. We expect you to want to contribute your knowledge and ideas for improvement.

At the thoracic clinic, anesthetist nurses work with thoracic anesthesia both in the operating rooms, intervention room, and robotic room. Thoracic anesthesia also provides the hospital's PCI and arrhythmia activities with anesthesia expertise, which means that you will also work with highly specialized cardiology.

The position primarily involves daytime work, but evening work and on-call duty are also included. The schedule is based on individual planning, and working time reduction is included in the scheduling with on-call duty. You are warmly welcome to shadow us to see our operations. Since 2023, we have been working according to a new and much more attractive scheduling model that includes the requirement for 11 hours of daily rest.
