The Role of Nursing Assistant/Care Assistant

Patients of varying ages with medical, surgical, or orthopedic conditions come to the emergency department. Here, you will work with acutely ill patients. The work is varied with a diverse patient flow and a lot of personal responsibility. The focus is on care, observation of the patient's health status, monitoring of vital parameters, sampling, casting, and transportation. We work a lot in teams and place great importance on good collaboration skills. You will work as a new nursing assistant/care assistant during days, evenings, and weekends.

Your Future Workplace

The emergency department at Värnamo Hospital handles acute illnesses and accidents that cannot be managed within primary care. We are open 24/7, every day of the year. Patients come to us by self-referral, being referred by various healthcare providers such as health centers, clinics, 1177, or by ambulance. About 50 people work with us, in addition to the doctors who staff the various on-call lines. We are a well-functioning emergency department, even by national standards. For several years, we have been among the top three emergency departments in the country regarding the time patients spend in the emergency department. Our goal is for patients to be fully treated in the emergency department within 4 hours of arrival. Right now, we are the emergency department in Sweden with the fastest processing times. We place great emphasis on continuously improving the flow and providing good and safe care to our patients.

Your Profile

We are looking for someone who is a trained nursing assistant or studying to become a nurse or doctor. We prefer that you have completed your third semester, but individual assessment can be made earlier. To ensure good summer planning, we appreciate if you can work six consecutive weeks during the summer. Introduction will take place in addition to these weeks.

You thrive in a workplace where you have the opportunity to work with mixed tasks at a varied pace. It is important that you are a flexible person with a pleasant demeanor. As an employee in the emergency department, you work independently but, as a newcomer, naturally with support from experienced colleagues. For you to succeed and thrive in your new role, we also see that you are stable and controlled in stressful situations and have the ability to remain calm in acute situations. We place great emphasis on good collaboration skills and personal suitability.

It is not always easy to be new on the job, and therefore we do our utmost to ensure that you feel safe and well-prepared for your summer job with us. Before you start working in the department, you will receive thorough training based on your needs and experiences. We offer two introductory days to all our summer temp workers where we go through the most relevant information about emergency care. We tailor your shadowing individually and are careful to make assessments together with you during the process.

They are designed so that you can engage in wellness activities to feel good, regardless of physical level and previous training experience. This benefit also applies to you as a summer temp with an employment of at least three weeks. The facilities are located in Eksjö, Nässjö, Jönköping, and Värnamo. If you currently have a permanent position as a nursing assistant and do not have proof of the protected professional title, we ask you to attach a certificate of your permanent employment in your application to continue to hold the title of nursing assistant.
