The Management Office of Region Uppsala is part of Region Uppsala, one of the largest employers in Uppsala County. The Management Office is led by the Regional Director and consists of approximately one thousand employees. With a governing, supportive, and coordinating role, the Management Office is tasked with supporting the political leadership and administrations to ensure that the political direction is reflected in the region's various operations. In this way, Region Uppsala can fulfill its role both regionally and nationally.

Our Operations

Do you want to help establish a new unit within the Management Office of Region Uppsala that is tasked with being the central expert function and engine for responsible and value-creating use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)? The mission is to coordinate, develop, adapt, quality assure, and manage AI systems in close collaboration with the region's operations. The AI Center will act as advisory and supportive throughout the entire lifecycle of AI systems – from idea to sustainable management and ensure that AI initiatives support the region's digitalization goals, comply with applicable legislation such as the AI Regulation, and meet the needs of the operations in an ethical and sustainable manner.

Your Mission

As a Data Scientist with IT architecture experience, you will use statistics, machine learning, and programming to solve complex problems and generate predictive models or adapt language models to meet the needs of the operations. Additionally, you will support other roles in the design and implementation of technical solutions and ensure that platforms, systems, and tools are optimally integrated and can support the operations' needs for data analysis and decision support. You will both design and implement the analytical support required from start to finish for an AI system and also consider the requirements set out in, for example, the AI Regulation. You will help the operations validate the performance and impact of models in practice. Furthermore, you will support with your expertise in partner development or identify requirements in the procurement of AI systems. In the role of Data Scientist with IT architecture experience, you will work to ensure that Region Uppsala's solution architecture, including data flows, data platforms, and analytical tools, is scalable and robust. You are also used to rolling up your sleeves and implementing parts of the architecture at scale.

Your Qualifications

Requirements

• Higher education or university degree in IT, data science, systems science, statistics, mathematics, or relevant work experience as assessed by the employer.
• At least 2 years of experience working as a data scientist, ML engineer, data engineer, or senior developer within systems that handle large amounts of data in production systems, e.g., within AML, KYC, BI, or AI.
• At least 2 years of experience in regulated operations.

Desirable

• Experience working with container architecture and CD/CI pipelines
• Experience working with monitoring, metadata management, and data lineage
• Experience in solution architecture or implementation of, for example, RAG or GenAI systems
