The Traffic Office is responsible for maintaining and developing Stockholm's public spaces, ensuring they are safe, attractive, accessible, and sustainable. The mission includes everything from taking care of the existing urban environment to implementing strategic investment projects and planning for tomorrow's growing metropolis. To accomplish our mission, we are about 470 colleagues, mainly located in the newly renovated premises of the Technical Board House in Kungsholmen. Welcome to us

The Park and Urban Environment unit is part of the Urban Environment Department.

We work with the design of the city's public spaces such as streets, squares, parks, and quays. Within the unit, we are also responsible for the investment, operation, and maintenance of all the city's street trees as well as the city's four municipal central parks and two municipal reserves. We collaborate with the district administrations regarding the city's park renovations.

Currently, we have 19 employees in roles such as landscape architect, landscape engineer, tree specialist, tree strategist, and unit manager. We are in an expansive phase where a lot is happening. Our issues, projects, and budget assignments have received increasing focus in recent years, which we find exciting!

Your role

As a tree specialist in a client function, you, along with your colleagues, are responsible for Stockholm's approximately 35,000 street trees regarding operation and maintenance together with existing tree specialists.

We need two employees. One position is a temporary position that extends to September 2027, and the other is a permanent position; the roles have different tasks that you can read about below.

Permanent position

In this position, you will primarily work on managing and following up the operation of the city's street trees. This includes, among other things, arborist services, inventories, inspections, and dialogue with our executing and consulting arborists. Systematic planning and management of operational efforts to streamline and ensure the quality of the measures performed. The main tasks include:

  • Collaborate with colleagues within the Traffic Office, other administrations, and the public regarding questions, error reports, and comments concerning street trees. This is done via our case system as well as via email and phone.
  • Plan, order, follow up, and evaluate tree care measures, such as various arborist services where operational measures may include formative pruning, safety pruning, or handling of both urgent and planned tree removals.
  • Participate in budget work and operational planning.
  • Follow developments in the industry to ensure quality in the execution of measures.
  • Participate in the implementation of the elm disease project.
  • Contribute to the preparation of service statements, project plans, and project reports within your area of responsibility.
  • Participate in procurements.

Temporary position

In this position, you will work with planning and project management of the establishment and renovation of planting beds and tree planting. The role includes advising on trees and planting bed construction within the city's projects to secure the trees' living environment. The main tasks include:

  • Collaborate with colleagues within the Traffic Office, other administrations, and the public regarding questions concerning trees and planting beds. Coordination projects with, for example, street maintenance or traffic planning may be relevant.
  • Plan, order, follow up, and evaluate planting bed and planting work.
  • Participate in budget work and operational planning.
  • Follow developments in the industry to ensure quality in the execution of measures.
  • Contribute to the preparation of service statements, project plans, and project reports within your area of responsibility.
  • Participate in procurements.

Your qualifications and experience

For this role, you need to have:

  • Post-secondary education as an arborist, landscape engineer, landscape architect, gardener, or equivalent.
  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of trees
  • Good plant knowledge of trees
  • Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.

It is advantageous if you have experience in:

  • Working as a client in public administration
  • Operation and maintenance of trees within contract work
  • Work as a tree consultant or green construction manager
  • Developing guidelines for trees or tree care, maintenance descriptions, or similar documentation
  • Technical development or innovative solutions in the tree and outdoor environment area
  • Working in a politically governed organization
  • Writing service statements and referral responses
  • Financial follow-up.

You take the initiative to drive development and make things happen while easily collaborating with many stakeholders. Finally, you communicate clearly and have a holistic view to see how individual parts connect in a larger context.
