The Department of Economic History is seeking a Study Coordinator.

The position is permanent at 20% with immediate start or by agreement.

About the workplace and main responsibilities

The Department of Economic History (https://www.umu.se/enheten-for-ekonomisk-historia/) conducts both teaching and research. Research in the field is regularly published in Swedish and international journals and utilizes both quantitative and qualitative methods as important tools. Economic history has well-developed research collaborations at local, national, and international levels in the following areas: business history, environmental and energy history, financial history, economic growth and transformation, political economy, and agrarian history. The department currently has about 15 employees.

The educational offerings at the department include hosting two programs, the Social Science Program and the Health Administration Program. The department also offers a number of independent courses at undergraduate and advanced levels as well as several courses in other programs. The structure of the Social Science Program, in addition to the common first semester, allows students to choose from a number of courses within the social sciences faculty. This means that as a study coordinator, you must collaborate with academic advisors in other departments/units. This can take the form of joint meetings to stay updated on how the course offerings for the various subjects are developing, to facilitate students' choices for different semesters. The Health Administration Program is an online education, which allows much of the work to be done digitally.

The role of the study coordinator also involves providing study and program guidance to both admitted and prospective students. The tasks include information and guidance about the department's courses and programs at undergraduate and advanced levels, inquiries and investigations regarding credit transfers, study interruptions, study breaks, etc. The study coordinator works closely with the program director and program coordinators regarding student issues.

The role also includes working in a student-supporting capacity to ensure that all students are given the best possible conditions to complete their studies. This means providing support and guidance to students who have been informed about targeted pedagogical support during their studies. The position includes some outreach activities, such as coordinating and hosting events and information sessions aimed at recruiting new students. Other administrative tasks may also be included, such as reviewing eligibility for admission decisions, etc. The position also involves contributing to a good working atmosphere by collaborating with other employees within the department and at Umeå University, maintaining and developing good work routines, and contributing to the planning and development of the operations and one's own competence.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with an academic degree, preferably with a degree in Study and Career Guidance or equivalent. You should have good computer skills and knowledge of the Office suite. Significant emphasis will be placed on experience working with academic advising at a university or college. Experience with study administrative systems such as NyA and Ladok is also an advantage.

You have a good ability to work independently, are structured, meticulous, and have the ability to prioritize in your work. Additionally, you find it easy to collaborate, build good relationships, are flexible, and solution-oriented. You thrive in a changing environment. Personal qualities will be given particular importance.

Conditions

The position is a permanent position at 20% with immediate start or by agreement; a probationary period may apply. The position is located in Umeå and requires presence at the workplace.

Welcome with your application

Umeå University aims to provide an equal and equitable environment where open conversations between people with different backgrounds and perspectives lay the foundation for learning, creativity, and development.
