Accounting Specialist for Malmö City

The City Office supports the municipal executive board in leading, coordinating, and overseeing the entire municipal organization. The Accounting Unit within the City Office is responsible for standard-setting and the development of accounting processes in the municipality and provides support to administrations and municipal companies on accounting issues.

We are now looking for an accounting specialist to join the Accounting Unit, which currently consists of six other economists, directly reporting to Malmö City's head of accounting.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the preparation of municipal reports such as economic forecasts, interim reports, and annual reports
• Ongoing monitoring and analysis of accounting
• Further develop and ensure the quality of city-wide accounting processes and routines
• Drive and coordinate development projects within the accounting area
• Support and educate administrations on accounting issues
• Participate in the implementation of a new financial system
• Work on the digitization of accounting processes

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with at least two years of current experience in financial closing and accounting in a larger organization or several years of experience in auditing. We prefer candidates who have previous experience in developing and improving routines within the accounting field. It is an advantage if you have worked with accounting issues within a municipality or another organization in the public sector.

You have an academic degree in economics and good knowledge of the Swedish language, both written and spoken. You are interested in future working methods with an emphasis on digitization and efficient workflows and have good system skills regarding reporting and accounting applications and Excel.

As a person, you are structured, analytical, and problem-solving, and you thrive in a role where you can take responsibility, work proactively and independently on improvements. You find it easy to collaborate and provide support to colleagues and other departments. About the workplace

The City Office's finance department has a municipal-wide responsibility for financial management, financing, accounting, monitoring, business systems, and strategic procurement activities. The department's mission is to support the municipal executive board in managing, coordinating, and overseeing municipal operations. The Accounting Unit's task is to be responsible for standard-setting in accounting matters within the municipality and the municipal group. The unit currently consists of a manager and six employees, most of whom work with specific areas within accounting.

The City Office directs, challenges, and strengthens the development potential in the organization, the city, and the region. We are the municipal executive board's administration and work with a holistic perspective close to the city's leadership. The City Office consists of seven different departments and has approximately 300 employees. Our departments work across a wide range of areas, and the administration has many employees with high specialist competence.
