Do you want to work with group accounting and help develop accounting standards and reporting processes for the city of Malmö and its companies? Here you will play a key role in coordinating and ensuring the quality of the accounting work for one of Sweden's most dynamic municipalities. The City Office supports the municipal executive board in leading, coordinating, and overseeing the entire municipal organization. The accounting unit within the City Office is responsible for standard-setting and the development of accounting processes in the municipality and provides support to administrations and municipal companies in accounting matters.

We are now looking for a group economist for the accounting unit, responsible for consolidation and the preparation of Malmö city's consolidated financial statements. In this role, you will also work on improvement projects, coordination of accounting principles, and the implementation of a new consolidation module. The position reports directly to the head of accounting for Malmö city.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare consolidated financial statements in economic forecasts, interim reports, and annual reports
  • Implement and monitor new standards for consolidated financial statements
  • Drive improvement projects and develop city-wide accounting processes and routines
  • Proactively support the finance departments of the administrations and companies
  • Coordinate the accounting principles of the companies and document these in the financial handbook
  • Participate in projects and implementation regarding the consolidation module
  • Engage in networks and collaborate with accounting managers and finance managers within the municipality

Qualifications

In the role of group economist, we want you to have at least five years of current experience in closing accounts and accounting, preferably having prepared or audited consolidated financial statements or group accounts within a larger organization.

You have an academic degree in economics and good familiarity with financial systems and knowledge of reporting and accounting applications. You have experience in identifying improvement opportunities and driving and coordinating development projects. You have good knowledge of the Swedish language, both spoken and written, as communication and documentation are a significant part of the role.

As a person, you are analytical, structured, and have an eye for detail while being solution-oriented and self-driven. You find it easy to collaborate and build relationships both within and outside the organization. About the workplace

The City Office's finance department has a municipal-wide responsibility for financial management, financing, accounting, monitoring, business systems, and strategic purchasing activities. The department's mission is to support the municipal executive board in the management, coordination, and oversight of municipal operations. The accounting unit's task is to be responsible for standard-setting in accounting matters within the municipality and the municipal group. The unit currently consists of a manager and 6 employees, most of whom work in specific areas of accounting.

The City Office directs, challenges, and strengthens the development capacity of the organization, the city, and the region. We are the administration of the municipal executive board and work with a holistic perspective close to the city's leadership. The City Office consists of seven different departments and has a total of about 300 employees. Our departments work within a wide range of areas, and the administration has many employees with high specialist competence.
