Preschool Assistant for Significantly Bilingual Preschool in Luleå

The school in Luleå is a national role model for national minorities, and we aim to be a leader in the country in this area. All children and youth within national minorities can, want, and dare to develop language and cultural belonging in all activities.

Language and culture are seen as assets for the individual and for society. Since February 2018, Luleå Municipality has been the administrative municipality for the national minority languages meänkieli and Sami. Previously, Luleå has been the administrative municipality for Finnish. Being an administrative municipality means that the municipality must inform about and offer bilingual preschool to the relevant target group of parents and their children. Therefore, we are looking for an educator who speaks Finnish.

The significantly bilingual preschool opened in the autumn of 2019 at Charlottendals Preschool, where we have departments for meänkieli, Sami, and Finnish. At the significantly bilingual preschool, an operation is organized where an administrative language is alive and can be used and developed for large parts of the day. Charlottendals Preschool is located in a scenic area in the center of Luleå. Around the corner, we have the beautiful Boulognerskogen with a small football/hockey field next to it that we can use. Our operations are characterized by all children being able to be in an accepting, safe, creative, joyful, and learning environment. It is important at our workplace that everyone feels good and feels they have a valuable role. This applies to both children and adults. We have an accepting work climate and care about being there for each other, both in work teams and throughout the entire facility.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a preschool assistant, you have an important role in the work team where you contribute to creating a positive and developing environment for all children. You will work independently and together with colleagues on development based on the goals and intentions of the curriculum. You should be curious and knowledgeable about children's learning and be interested in staying updated on topics related to children's development and learning. You should promote good parent cooperation.

The purpose of the significantly bilingual preschool is to provide good opportunities for children within the administrative languages to preserve, develop, and resume language, culture, and identity. The administrative language is spoken by regular staff with the children between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM every day. The staff should have good language skills and be able to adapt their language to the children's needs. The national minority language is the norm, and you need to work on language development with a revitalization focus.

A stimulating cultural environment is built around language and culture as equally central elements. The development of the operation takes place in collaboration with parents and other important actors. As an educator at the significantly bilingual preschool, you have the opportunity to develop the language and become a specialist. You will have access to networks and professional development and will be able to make study visits. Our ambition is to become a leader in the country, and you will become an ambassador for Luleå and national minority languages.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who has:

• final grades from the upper secondary school child and leisure program, or you have preschool assistant education
• good knowledge of Finnish
• good knowledge of Swedish

It is an advantage if you have experience working in preschool.

You should have good social collaboration skills and be flexible. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability and the ability to take responsibility and willingness to collaborate.
