We are now seeking a postdoctoral researcher in molecular ecology for the program in Zooecology.

Project Description

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher for 2.5 years for the project “Insects as Vectors for Antimicrobial Resistance in Urban Landscapes”. The overarching goal is to increase understanding of the role of insects (Chironomidae: midge flies) in the spread and dynamics of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) from wastewater treatment plants. The project employs a unique combination of field studies and laboratory experiments.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include bioinformatically assembling “metagenome-assembled genomes” (MAGs) from shotgun metagenomic sequence data, performing taxonomic classification, and identifying plasmids and antimicrobial resistance genes. The analyses will include multivariate statistical methods.

Qualifications

A PhD or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a PhD in microbiology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, environmental genomics, or a related field. The degree must be completed by the time the employment decision is made.

Desirable Qualifications

The candidate should have experience in analyzing metagenomic shotgun data. Experience in reconstructing MAGs and identifying AMR genes is highly desirable.

About the Employment

This is a fixed-term position for 30 months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of 36 months, according to central collective agreements. The position is full-time. Start date is 2026-02-01 or by agreement. Location: Uppsala.
