About the Department

The Surgical Department at Sahlgrenska specializes in breast and melanoma, endocrine, upper gastrointestinal, and trauma surgical care and treatment.

Within the department, there are three wards (ward 132, 136, and 137/Trauma), two intermediate units within wards 132 and 136, and an outpatient clinic with an associated day care unit and research unit. We provide both emergency and planned care, with planned care occupying just under half of our care resources and mainly consisting of care for patients with various cancer diagnoses.

At the surgical outpatient clinic, we investigate and treat patients with surgical conditions and can offer you an interesting and varied job with opportunities to develop in your professional role. As a specialist nurse/contact nurse with us, you will work with a variety of tasks such as telephone advice, drop-in consultations, admissions, investigations, as well as treatment and follow-up of surgical patients. You will also work in our day care unit where we assess patients for potential admission, care for patients undergoing treatments or day surgery both before and after procedures. We also have close collaboration between outpatient care, inpatient care, and our research unit. You will also have the opportunity to deepen your knowledge in one or more areas of responsibility depending on your skills and interests. For example, there are cross-departmental groups based on SKR's risk areas.

We are looking for you who are a licensed nurse with a specialization in surgery, oncology, or another suitable area to work within a surgical department. We place great importance on personal qualities such as the ability to work independently, flexibility, and interest in working with people in vulnerable life situations. Work experience as a nurse and specialist or contact nurse training is advantageous.
