to apply for the job
Area of Operations: Psychiatry
We are Akademiska sjukhuset – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a regional hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer services to two million people in Central Sweden. Something is always happening here – a new life is born, a grandmother is operated on, a colleague is celebrated as a hero. With us, you will experience both tough challenges and fantastic events, in a strong community with colleagues. See parts of our reality in our photo exhibition; akademiskafotoutstallning.se (http://akademiskafotoutstallning.se). Welcome with your application!
Our Operations
The psychiatry area provides highly specialized care for individuals with severe mental illnesses. Psychiatry ward 3A is a 24-hour care ward with 13 beds for the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients primarily with affective disorders, mainly bipolar syndromes, severe depression, and anxiety disorders. The ward also cares for patients with eating disorders. Four of the beds are dedicated to this treatment.
Given the high comorbidity within affective disorders and eating disorders, it is essential that you, as a nurse, monitor somatic complications alongside the psychiatric illness. Somatic and psychiatric nursing work is conducted in parallel with our inpatient patients. We work in two teams where you, as a nurse, have a leadership role and are responsible for the nursing care of seven patients together with nursing assistants, caregivers, and ward doctors.
Your Mission
You will be the team leader in the daily operations of the ward and responsible for nursing care in close collaboration with caregivers, nursing assistants, doctors, and social workers. You will make assessments, carry out treatments, and have nursing conversations with patients and their relatives, as well as coordinate with care providers for the patient between care neighbors. Additionally, you will plan the patient's care together with the ward doctor and report and delegate tasks.
Other tasks include performing prescribed medical technical tasks, administering medications in various forms, taking samples, and working with care plans. You will participate in quality work within your area of expertise and engage in other research and development activities. If interested, you can initiate and conduct theme groups with patients. You will also help develop somatic and psychiatric nursing on the ward together with your nursing colleagues. Mentoring students and new employees is also a natural part of your duties.
Your Qualifications and Competence
We are looking for an experienced nurse, or a newly graduated nurse, or someone in between. Experience is an advantage but not a requirement. We see later specialization as a natural part of professional development. We would be happy to meet you and tell you more about our ward and the important work of nurses in psychiatry, especially in ward 3A. We place great importance on personal suitability, as well as a curious and open mind.
We Offer
We offer a permanent full-time position where a probationary period may apply.
We place great emphasis on ensuring that you feel secure in your role as a nurse and with your responsibilities. Therefore, we see that your first six months will be a tailored introduction with gradually increasing responsibility and stepwise professional development. Depending on your experience, we will collaboratively build your introduction for the best results. If you are newly graduated, you will also be offered to participate in a clinical development year (KUÅ) for 20% of your working hours. There are also opportunities to take courses such as MI training, DBT-oriented nursing, and supervision on the ward. With us, you will receive benefits that make a difference; read about the benefits here (https://regionuppsala.se/jobba-hos-oss/bli-var-nya-kollega/formaner/).
