The feeling of seeing progress in a patient, you get so much back, every day.

We work with the whole patient, not just a part. I like that you get to use all your skills, both psychiatric care and somatic health. This makes for a varied everyday life and self-development. The job often revolves around communication – understanding who I have in front of me and how I can adapt my communication to meet the person where they are now. Working so intensively with people means that you develop all the time, even as a person.

…. this is how one of our employees describes what it is like to work as a caregiver within Region Östergötland. Do you want to make an important contribution and a big difference in people's lives?

Employees in psychiatry meet people at all stages of life – people who in one way or another need help and support to get back on the right track. Whether you work with children, adults, or the elderly, you truly make a difference for both patients and relatives.

Perhaps this is your first job as a qualified caregiver, or you are studying to become a nurse or doctor. A summer job is an opportunity to broaden your experiences and knowledge while making valuable contacts for the future. Perhaps you land the right position directly, and when you do – then you know. You are the right person in the right place. And in healthcare, we need people like you.

Job Description

As a caregiver, you are a key player in making life work as best as possible for patients who need help and support to get back on the right track. You are therefore an important part of a team where you collaborate with other caregivers, nurses, doctors, social workers, and psychologists. In the teams, care and treatment are coordinated together with the patients and relatives based on the patient's individual needs.

Examples of job tasks include:

  • Supporting patients so that they discover and develop their own ability to manage their daily lives through conversation.
  • Assisting the patient in daily activities such as cooking, cleaning, and exercising.
  • Taking samples, giving injections, and documenting.
  • Distributing medication, after delegation from a nurse. Working to create security for both patients and relatives.

From Introduction to Career and Competence Development

Since we believe that competence and safe care are the foundation of a secure work environment, we place great emphasis on introduction. In addition to the introduction in the department, you will attend a regional introduction program for caregivers with 14 different program steps. All to ensure that you feel secure in your employment in the region. Region Östergötland has a long-term, structured approach to career and competence development for employees.

Education and Experience

To work as a caregiver, you must be a trained caregiver/nursing assistant or a nursing or medical student who is approved in semester 3 at the start of employment. It is advantageous if you are approved in the course Psychiatry 2, 200 points, as well as approved workplace-based learning (APL) for that course. It is also advantageous if you have work experience from psychiatry, addiction, primary care, or care and welfare and/or work focused on good service. In order for us to offer our patients good and safe care, it is important that our employees can communicate in Swedish, both orally and in writing.

If your application is relevant, a request will be sent out via Refapp where you will need to provide your references for a digital reference check. Once the references are complete, we will call you for a brief check-in where you will also indicate which services you are interested in working at. A complete application includes:

  • An attached cover letter and a CV describing your previous work experiences. If you have done an internship, you can include this.
  • Attached certificates from training, licenses, or diplomas. If you do not yet have a degree, attach a transcript of the courses you have taken (Ladok transcript or high school diploma).
  • Indicating the weeks you tentatively believe you can work during the summer of 2025.

If your application is missing any of the above, we may ask you to make a supplement.
