Your upcoming role As an engineer within the Rolling Stock team, your task is to contribute in various ways to the development and management of our vehicle systems in a cost-effective manner throughout their lifecycle, based on customer needs and SJ's goals regarding safety, quality, economy, and sustainability among others. Your specific role in the team involves being part of the group's technical expertise in the mechanical systems of vehicles. In this role, you will work on both your own development and investigation tasks as well as support the other group's tasks. You will become part of a group where collaboration and cohesion are important and where we have fun together.

Your responsibilities:

  • Manage and develop vehicle systems, vehicle technology, and maintenance systems, as well as maintain and improve safety
  • Work with requirements for maintenance, modifications, and upgrades of vehicles, as well as follow up on agreements
  • Contribute vehicle expertise in projects and working groups
  • Participate in and lead projects and vehicle activities
  • Lead technical investigations and prepare documentation for decisions and procurements
  • Work with operational safety, RCM analyses, and traffic safety assessments
  • Participate in the work to implement condition-based maintenance with the help of digital support

As a mechanical engineer, you are part of the Rolling Stock Team within the Technical Product Management unit in the Vehicle Division. Technical Product Management has about a hundred employees with mixed competencies in vehicle technology and maintenance to manage and develop all types of technical subsystems on a railway vehicle.

Expectations for the candidate we are looking for You have a technical interest, enjoy problem-solving, and want to learn about both proven and new technical solutions. As a person, you are structured, responsible, and driven as well as quality-oriented. You can clearly communicate requirements to suppliers and designers who will realize your ideas and investigation results.

  • Master's degree or equivalent with good experience in the railway industry, primarily in mechanical systems on rail vehicles.
  • Experience with train computer and/or signaling systems is an advantage.
  • Ability to manage internal and external contacts, and thus skilled in collaborating and building relationships
  • Good communication skills in both spoken and written form, and experienced in producing documentation and presenting your results.
  • Good knowledge of Swedish and English
