20% Teaching Assistant at the Department of Information Technology

The Department of Information Technology holds a leading position in both research and education at all levels.

We are currently Uppsala University's third largest department with over 350 employees, including 120 teachers and 120 PhD students. Are you interested in teaching and being part of an academic work environment? Do you want to gain experience working at a university? The Department of Information Technology is now seeking several 20% teaching assistants for the academic year 2025/2026.

20% teaching assistants are hired for an entire academic year. As a 20% teaching assistant, you will be employed by the department and be part of its activities. You will gain insight into the university's organization and participate in the daily work of one of the department's divisions. You will assist in teaching and administration of selected programs and courses at the department as well as activities organized by your division. As a 20% teaching assistant, you will have access to staff facilities and office space, and you will also benefit from the university's many employment benefits, such as wellness grants and paid vacation days.

Job Responsibilities

Participation in teaching courses at the Department of Information Technology. Participation in teaching includes, for example, attending laboratory sessions and lectures, grading assignments, answering students' questions, supervising student projects, or course development.

Qualifications

Employment as a teaching assistant is regulated by the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 5. Only those who are admitted to undergraduate or advanced level education may be employed as teaching assistants (HF Chapter 5 §10). The applicant must demonstrate good academic results, particularly in the area of the course(s) they will assist with, as well as very good proficiency in English, both spoken and written.

Desirable/meritorious

Previous experience in teaching relevant courses at the higher education level is particularly meritorious. Experience with relevant IT systems (Studium) and good knowledge of Uppsala University's organization is desirable. Good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written (applies only to courses taught in Swedish).

Application Procedure

The application should include a letter in which the applicant briefly describes their experience in teaching, language, and knowledge (e.g., study certificates). Also describe and motivate why you are interested in the position. The application may further include information about which courses the applicant prefers to teach. Please attach your registration certificate as well.

Interviews are scheduled to be held on May 23, May 26, or May 28.

About the Employment

The employment is temporary according to HF Chapter 5 § 12. The extent is 20%. Start date is August 18, 2025, or by agreement. Location: Uppsala.
