Costume Technician Wanted at the Royal Opera

Do you want to contribute during an exciting time of change at the Royal Opera and help create world-class performing arts? The Royal Opera is now seeking a costume technician for a temporary position for the upcoming performance year.

The Costume Service is a team of seven people, each with their own area of responsibility, but our tasks are based on close collaboration within the group as well as within the costume unit. As we are a repertory theater, you will also be responsible for preparing productions that are being revived. JOB DESCRIPTION

Your main responsibilities include:

• Ongoing maintenance, care, washing, and purchasing of costumes, shoes, and accessories
• Logistics between the Opera's various locations (Opera House, Flemingsberg, Jordbro)
• Cataloging and documentation of productions
• Stock work, we also work in the Trail inventory system
• Close collaboration with costume technicians, costume designers, and the workshop
• Organizing and participating in costume fittings
• Alterations
• Touring activities

The costume unit is part of the Technical section at the Royal Opera. The position reports to the Head of Costume Service. The employment is a fixed-term position, temporary, full-time, lasting throughout the 25/26 performance year. Working hours are scheduled during the day and evening, both weekdays and weekends.

REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCE PROFILE

We are looking for someone with a background in sewing education and at least 1 year of professional experience from theater or similar activities. You should have good IT skills to manage cataloging and documentation, as well as knowledge of theatrical costumes and textiles. Your English language skills should be very good.

As a person, you enjoy being part of a team where you work both independently and collaboratively to achieve the organization's goals. You are loyal to your tasks, flexible, positive towards collaboration, and have good logistical skills. The work involves a lot of social contacts with many different professional groups within the Opera, so it is essential that you enjoy meeting people and have good collaboration skills. We are facing significant changes due to the planned multi-year renovation of the Opera House. Adaptability and flexibility are required to succeed in this position.
