We are looking for a school counselor at 50%, a collaboration between Umeå Waldorf School grades F-9 and Umeå Montessori School grades F-6, both located in Umedalen, Umeå.

40% of the position is at Umeå Waldorf School and 10% at Umeå Montessori School, and we wish to fill the position starting August 11, 2025.

The Schools

Umeå Waldorf School is Sweden's northernmost Waldorf school and Umeå's oldest independent school. The school offers Waldorf education for approximately 230 students in grades F-9 (one class per grade). The operation also includes after-school care and a preschool, across two units.

Umeå Waldorf School has a large schoolyard with forest, school garden, and wooden buildings arranged like a small village on the school grounds, beautifully located above the Ume River.

The school operates as a foundation and is non-profit.

The school is predominantly a textbook-free school, and the teaching is based on storytelling, experiences, experiments, and artistic practice.

Umeå Montessori School is an independent Montessori school with grades F-6, located in the beautiful sculpture park in Umedalen.

The school has around 80 students divided into three classes: preschool and grade 1, grades 2-3, and grades 4-6. A majority of the students are also enrolled in the school's after-school care.

Umeå Montessori School has been in existence for many years but has been run since autumn 2017 by dedicated educators as a staff cooperative in the form of an economic association. Any surplus is reinvested back into the school's operations.

Inspired by Montessori pedagogy, students are encouraged early on to take responsibility for their school, environment, each other, and their own learning.

The heart of both operations is, of course, our children, students, and our staff.

Student Health

The student health team at Umeå Waldorf School consists of a special educator, speech therapist, school nurse, counselor, school doctor, principal, and vice principal.

The student health team at Umeå Montessori School consists of a special educator, school psychologist, school nurse, counselor, school doctor, and principal.

The schools currently share a counselor and school nurse.

Your Responsibilities

Your responsibilities as a counselor are to work collaboratively with the student health team and other staff at the institutions, focusing on preventive and health-promoting efforts to contribute to a good learning and living environment for the students.

As a school counselor, you are part of the schools' student health team and collaborate with both principals and teams and competencies within the student health teams.

We expect you to have experience leading values-based, safety, and well-being initiatives. You work proactively and preventively, are solution-focused, and always try to see the positive and build from there.

Your responsibilities include, among other things, being responsible for the schools' plan against discrimination and bullying, conducting group-oriented interventions, conducting individual conversations with students, and guiding staff and guardians. The role also includes contact and collaboration with other authorities.

You are flexible and enjoy juggling multiple tasks.

You are calm, secure, and trustworthy.

You have good knowledge of the laws that apply to students in educational activities.

The Positions

The positions are 40% at Umeå Waldorf School and 10% at Umeå Montessori School, and they are two separate employments scheduled on different weekdays at both schools.
