System Engineer at the Swedish Armed Forces

About the Organization

FMTIS has a consolidated responsibility for the operation, maintenance, and management of the Swedish Armed Forces' technical command support systems. The systems support military operations at sea, on land, and in the air - in Sweden and abroad. Our responsibility encompasses the entire chain, from facilities and transmission and carrier networks to applications, servers, computers, and sensor systems. Work occurs at strategic, operational, and tactical levels. The systems unit is responsible for managing technology and material in the Armed Forces' fixed command support systems, technical and infrastructural design, and architecture of the joint defense information infrastructure. The systems unit consists of a unit management, staff, and four departments comprising a total of approximately 200 employees distributed across about 15 locations in Sweden.

About the Position

As a system engineer, you will belong to the Maintenance Department of the Systems Unit, where you will work with overall technical management and be responsible for leading, planning, and directing the system management of the Armed Forces' airport systems.

Main Responsibilities

The work involves:

  • Being involved in the assignment dialogue and collaborating directly with our client regarding finances and objectives.
  • Keeping up with the technical developments in the field and supporting the work on updates to ensure that the airport systems maintain sufficient security.
  • Supporting ongoing development projects of new systems and products while managing existing systems and products.

The main task is not to work directly with the technology, but the focus is on managing the administration and the resources available within the organization. You must have a technical understanding and a basic technical competence to guide specialists with deep technical knowledge to apply their skills in the right direction.

As a system engineer, you will work in environments that offer opportunities for close collaboration and exchange of experiences with other colleagues and authorities, requiring high social skills and flexibility.

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree with a focus on IT/Telecom, or equivalent at least 5 years of work experience deemed equivalent by the employer.
  • Experience in development and management work within IT/Telecom.
  • Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
  • Driver's license B.

PREFERABLE

  • Experience in practical management, for example as a team leader or equivalent.
  • Experience working with various airport systems.
  • Familiarity with command systems and their infrastructure within the Armed Forces.
  • Networking within the Armed Forces/Industry.
  • Experience in Project Management.
  • Language skills in technical English.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the Armed Forces' IT infrastructure.

Personal Qualities

We are looking for someone who is engaged and service-oriented, has an easy time making contact with people, and has a good ability to express themselves in speech and writing. You are used to leading and engaging others and have a strong personal drive. You are a good teammate while also being willing to take initiative and personal responsibility. You have good administrative skills.

Employment type: Permanent civilian employment. The Armed Forces applies a six-month probationary period.

The position involves travel both for the day and for longer periods.
