Research Engineer in Electronic Warfare Analysis
FOI, the Total Defence Research Institute, is one of Europe’s leading institutes for applied research in defense and security. FOI is an authority under the Ministry of Defence, and our mission is to conduct research, method and technology development, and investigations for total defense and to support disarmament, non-proliferation, and international security. Our activities are primarily conducted on behalf of the Government Offices, the Armed Forces, the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), and the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB). At FOI, we have about 1400 employees, of which more than 1000 work directly with research and development. Our competencies span the entire field from natural sciences and technology to social and political sciences.
Do you have a strong interest in building measurement and data collection systems and want to apply this knowledge to enhance Sweden's and its allies' defense and security capabilities? Then FOI could be your new workplace! We offer a balanced work life, a developing work environment, and a socially important job!
About the Position
In this role, you will be part of the entire development chain of prototypes and proof-of-concept, from design, production, and testing of systems to enable simulations and field trials. As a research engineer with us, you will have the opportunity to use both your practical and theoretical knowledge to solve problems and tasks throughout the development chain together with colleagues and clients. The results of the work are used to assess various systems' electronic warfare characteristics. Such capabilities provide direct benefits to the defense capabilities of Sweden and its allies. Depending on the application, software development may occur in various environments and programming languages. You have the freedom, and with it, the responsibility, to choose a structure and environment that suits the work. The work also includes developing systems for collecting measurement data and analyzing data and simulation results to further develop the systems and answer questions from our clients. With us, you will develop your skills. This occurs both within the framework of project activities and in the form of individually tailored skills development based on your and the organization's needs.
About the Unit
You will be part of the unit for Material-Near Electronic Warfare Analysis, which belongs to the Electronic Warfare Department. The Material-Near Electronic Warfare Analysis unit works, among other things, to develop systems used to respond to assessment questions from the Armed Forces. The work is largely experimental and is carried out both in the lab and in the field.
Do you have the competence profile we need?
Requirements
- University degree in engineering physics, electronics design, computer engineering, or a related field, or skills that FOI assesses as equivalent.
- You have current experience and competence in both analog and digital electronics.
- You have a good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in both Swedish and English.
- You have good practical skills and a strong interest in technology and experimental work.
We are looking for someone who is results-oriented, self-driven, and has good analytical skills. You take responsibility for your work, which you effectively drive forward in a structured way to deliver requested results on time. Furthermore, you have good communication skills and collaborate well and constructively with both colleagues and clients.
It is an advantage if you have knowledge or experience in:
- The military, defense-related research, or the defense industry.
- Design of electronics or software for collecting and processing measurement data.
- Development of software for controlling or collecting data from external electronics and hardware.
