The Swedish National Board of Institutional Care (SiS) is an authority responsible for individually adapted compulsory care for young people with complex psychosocial problems and for adults with substance abuse issues. SiS also implements secure youth care. We do this at youth homes and homes for adults with substance abuse across the country. At SiS, your work life will be an exciting challenge. No matter where in our organization you work or what position you hold, you help create life-changing transformations.

SiS youth home Bärby, located outside Uppsala, receives non-compulsory school-age boys with psychosocial problems as well as criminality and substance abuse.

Job Description

We welcome young people who are in a problematic and tough life situation. Many have negative experiences of school and low confidence in their own abilities. As a teacher with us, you will work with these students and have a unique opportunity to ignite their desire to learn and make them proud of themselves. Teaching occurs in small classes, allowing you ample time for each student. You always start from individual needs and build trusting and professional relationships that make the young people feel safe in school.

Bärbyskolan constitutes its own unit within the institution where we collaboratively plan, teach in smaller teaching groups, evaluate, and develop the educational activities at the institution. Teaching at Bärby is offered at both high school and elementary school levels, with most students aged between 16 and 20 years. The educational activities within SiS follow the same regulations as the rest of the school system, except that necessary deviations in teaching may occur with regard to the student. Bärbyskolan is responsible for the education of all enrolled youth regardless of their issues or placement form. All youth residing at the youth home should receive the education they need and are entitled to. We work closely with the youth and maintain a positive spirit in both work and relationships. Teachers both teach and have a mentoring responsibility for the students.

We are now looking for teachers who will teach home economics. Responsibilities include teaching and mentoring students as well as mentoring. Additionally, documentation, development work, and collaboration with other professionals at Bärby, other institutions, and stakeholders will be part of the role. As an authority, we encourage all types of professional development and offer extensive courses, internal training, and unique experiences. Qualifications

We are looking for a teacher who is qualified and certified to teach home economics, preferably in combination with another subject. You have good collaboration skills, creativity, a flexible approach, and a positive view of students. You handle challenges, participate in the school's development, and possess high social competence. You should be attracted by the opportunity to teach and build trusting educational relationships in small teaching groups of about four to seven students as well as in one-on-one teaching. To succeed in working with our youth, it is important that you can identify and meet the student's needs with high realistic expectations and motivate and guide the student towards their goals. It is also important to create a safe learning environment for students with special needs within the framework of the smaller teaching group. Documented special education experience, knowledge of various diagnoses, and experience working with youth in need of special support and institutional care are advantageous. As a person, you are secure, stable, and calm, even in stressful situations. You always take responsibility for your tasks by planning, organizing, and prioritizing work effectively to achieve set goals. We appreciate if you are unpretentious, flexible, can set and maintain boundaries respectfully, and have confidence that all students can find a path to education and work. We place great importance on personal suitability.

At SiS, we value good employee engagement. This means that you as an employee take responsibility for your work, contribute to development, and participate in good collaboration. Read more about our employee engagement.
