The Department of Economics https://nek.uu.se/ (https://nek.uu.se/) is one of the largest departments within the Faculty of Social Sciences, with approximately 100 employees from a dozen countries. Annually, around 1,000 students participate in one of our courses at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels. The research focuses on labor market economics, macroeconomics, and public economics. Researchers at the department are often engaged as experts in public inquiries and in the media and collaborate in many ways with the surrounding society.
The Uppsala Immigration Lab (UIL) https://www.uu.se/uil/?languageId=3 (https://www.uu.se/uil/?languageId=3) and Urban Lab https://urbanlab.ibf.uu.se/?languageId=3 (https://urbanlab.ibf.uu.se/?languageId=3) are part of a broad and active research environment at the Department of Economics and the Institute for Housing and Urban Research (IBF). Uppsala Immigration Lab and Urban Lab aim to further strengthen operations through collaborations within the academic world and with the surrounding community. We study central social issues related to migration, integration, and urban development. The research is quantitatively oriented and utilizes rich datasets and modern methods to create new knowledge. The projects are conducted in collaboration with leading researchers nationally and internationally.
Job Responsibilities
We are looking for 1-3 research assistants for a fixed-term position of about one year at Uppsala Immigration Lab and Urban Lab. As a research assistant, you will work closely with researchers and assist them in research projects. The work includes everything from data collection and processing to assisting researchers conducting advanced econometric analysis in research projects with large register-based datasets. Therefore, we expect you to have an interest in both research and social issues.
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree focused on quantitative analysis, for example in economics, political science, statistics, or computer science.
- Experience working with quantitative datasets.
- Great emphasis is placed on personal qualities such as collaboration and initiative, flexibility, and the ability to independently analyze data.
Desirable/meritorious
- A master's degree or ongoing master's studies in, for example, economics, political science, statistics, or computer science is meritorious.
- Experience in programming in e.g. Stata, R, Python, or ArcGIS is valuable, as well as work with register data and compilations of institutional conditions.
- Good ability to express yourself well in both spoken and written Swedish and/or English.
About the Position
Salary: Individual salary setting applies.
Start date: In August 2025 or by agreement.
Employment type: Fixed-term employment for approximately 12 months.
