We need to complement our unit with a senior and experienced expert focused on licensing of nuclear activities.

You will be part of the Department for Preparedness and Licensing. The department is responsible for licensing matters, the authority's work with civil defense, crisis and war organization, security protection for nuclear facilities, as well as the transport of radioactive waste and nuclear materials.

In the Licensing Unit for Nuclear Facilities, we are responsible for licensing and exemptions for nuclear activities, radioactive waste, spent nuclear fuel, etc. The unit is responsible for reviewing recurring overall assessments and reviewing R&D programs (Research Development Demonstration). The unit's responsibilities also include exemption of building structures, areas, and materials that cannot be exempted according to regulations, as well as issues of liability and compensation in the event of radiological accidents for all types of facilities and transports. Ahead of us lies a variety of interesting and important tasks.

As an experienced expert, you independently drive your cases forward. You contribute your expertise and knowledge to resolve various types of cases. The reviews you will work on are often of a larger, interdisciplinary nature and are carried out by a group with various competencies where you are also expected to lead and guide others in the work and follow up on results and progress. Collegial cooperation and collaboration with other investigators with similar tasks are a natural part of this role.

Depending on your expertise and background, you will handle questions and contribute to:

  • reviewing safety reports, e.g., for the final disposal of spent nuclear fuel or the construction of other new facilities
  • licensing of nuclear activities regarding radioactive waste for interim storage and final disposal
  • decisions on exemption, permits under the Radiation Protection Act, and exemptions in the area
  • contributing to the authority's development of regulations and procedures.

We offer you tasks with a variety of smaller and larger cases as well as more extensive reviews where different competencies contribute their experience. There are good opportunities for development to both deepen and broaden your knowledge within nuclear facilities and analyses related to safety issues.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • a doctoral degree in a scientific/technical field that the authority deems relevant for the role
  • several years of relevant work experience in areas that the authority deems relevant for the role, e.g., radioactive waste, radiation safety issues, analysis of radioactivity, exemption, compliance, safety reports, etc.
  • very good ability to express yourself in Swedish and English, both orally and in writing.

It is advantageous if you have:

  • experience in analyses related to the management of radioactive waste, including exemption
  • knowledge of the dispersion of radioactive substances in the environment and/or methods for determining the presence of radioactive substances
  • experience in interpreting and applying requirements in, e.g., the Nuclear Technology Act and the Radiation Protection Act
  • experience in working with safety reports
  • experience in working in a nuclear facility
  • experience in leading projects
  • experience in public administration.

Personal qualities: To function in the role, you need to have a problem-solving analytical ability where you analyze and break down problems into their components. You also need to have a linguistic analytical ability where you understand complex linguistic materials and can produce your own documents of high quality. In this role, it is also required that you have a very good ability to collaborate and relate to others in a responsive and smooth manner. You are self-driven and work in a structured way while prioritizing your work effectively to meet given deadlines.

We expect you to have a high security awareness and that you can work according to both Our Values - The Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (stralsakerhetsmyndigheten.se) and the State Values (forvaltningskultur.se).
