Environmental Protection Officer at the County Administrative Board of Södermanland

The County Administrative Board is an expert authority in areas such as nature and the environment, community building, and rural development, directly subordinate to the government. We act as a link between people, municipalities, regions, and various authorities. We work to ensure that national goals are implemented in the county. We do this by considering the whole in our authority exercise, by disseminating knowledge, and by coordinating and developing various issues. The overarching mission of the Environmental Protection Unit is to work towards achieving environmental goals through opinions in assessments, supervision of environmentally hazardous activities, guidance in supervision, and work with contaminated areas.

We also participate in the work of reviewing appealed municipal decisions according to the Environmental Code, monitor environmental and health protection issues in planning matters, and guide the municipalities in the county on environmental protection issues.

The unit consists of a manager and fourteen employees. The unit belongs to the Environmental Department and consists of two working groups, one focused on contaminated areas and one primarily on supervision and assessment of activities requiring permits according to the Environmental Code, where this position is placed.

Job Responsibilities

Your main job responsibilities will be to participate in permit processes and work with supervision of environmentally hazardous activities according to the Environmental Code and other relevant special legislation. You will have your own supervisory responsibility for several supervisory objects. Your interests and previous experiences may influence which industries you are responsible for.

As an Environmental Protection Officer, you will participate in permit processes, both during consultations and through opinions to the decision-making authority. You may also represent the County Administrative Board in land and environmental court hearings. Guidance in supervision towards the municipalities in the county and work in various cross-sectoral groups at the County Administrative Board will be other parts of your work.

Qualifications and Profile

We place great importance on personal qualities where good collaboration skills are very important. The work requires good administrative skills and the ability to drive issues independently. Since you will have a lot of contact with both operators, the public, and other authorities, it is important that you can express yourself well in the Swedish language, both orally and in writing.

We are looking for someone with:

• A scientific or technical degree at the university level with a focus on environment, chemistry, geology, or another degree that the employer assesses as equivalent.
• Good knowledge of environmental legislation
• A valid driver's license (B)
• Good knowledge of English

Experience in the following areas is advantageous:

• Experience in environmental supervision and/or assessment from an authority, particularly experience in environmental supervision concerning complex industrial activities.
• Work with environmental issues related to A and B facilities
• Authority exercise according to other relevant legislation

About the Position

The employment is a permanent position. A six-month probationary period may apply. The position may be subject to security clearance. Start date is to be agreed upon.

All positions at the County Administrative Board may be subject to military placement depending on the nature of the assignment.
