About the operation

The Pediatric Surgery Unit is an independent entity at Queen Silvia's Children's Hospital. We offer pediatric surgical and pediatric urological highly specialized, regional, and county healthcare for children under 16 years. Additionally, we provide both acute and elective trauma care. Significant research is conducted at the clinic. Research and development are an integral part of our operations. Queen Silvia's Children's Hospital provides nationally specialized care in several areas, including chronic lung diseases and malformations, acquired spinal cord injuries, and intestinal failure in children. The hospital also has NHV care for pediatric cardiac surgery.

What can we offer you as a candidate?

A residency position with us means a stimulating and varied job. You will participate in clinical work both during the day and on call. This includes primary on-call activities, work on the ward, outpatient clinic, surgery, and day surgery. Your residency training will include both surgery of county healthcare character and also regional and highly specialized care for congenital malformations in pediatric surgery and pediatric urology. You will rotate internally at the hospital, but there will also be a three to six-month rotation at an external pediatric surgical clinic. Our clinic is subspecialized, and you will serve in all teams and are expected to take an active role in both research, development work, and supervision of junior doctors and medical students.

The residency training follows the guidelines and goal descriptions of the Swedish Pediatric Surgical Association and the National Board of Health and Welfare. In addition to standard clinical work, participation in courses and both internal and external training is, of course, included. The clinic has its own study director responsible for the residency training. Structured supervision and feedback are mandatory parts of our education.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with a burning interest in the combination of surgery and pediatrics who enjoys a fast-paced environment. You should thrive with the variety we can offer, including work in the emergency department, outpatient clinic, ward, and surgery. You are professional, independent, and work calmly and methodically. You make reasonable assessments/prioritizations, are aware of your limitations, and are good at communicating and collaborating. You actively seek knowledge/science and maintain your specialist knowledge. You see solutions to problems and take an active role in the workgroup.

Requirements:

• Licensed physician.
• Language skills in Swedish at least level C1 according to the Council of Europe’s scale.

Meritorious:

• Specialist certificate in general surgery.
• General surgical experience.
• Urological experience.
• Experience working with children.
• Research merits.
• Interest in teaching.
