Deputy Chief of Preparation Wanted at the Land and Environment Court of Appeal

The Land and Environment Court of Appeal operates with a preparation organization for all types of cases handled by the court. All cases are assigned to one of the four preparation chief rotations and then, in most cases, further assigned to sub-rotations staffed by rapporteurs and assessors. The preparation chiefs are responsible judges for their respective cases. The rapporteurs and assessors prepare and present questions and cases and draft proposals for decisions. The overall responsibility for the preparation organization lies with one of the department's deputy chairpersons. In addition to the mentioned deputy chairperson and preparation chiefs, the preparation organization consists of deputy preparation chiefs, specialist rapporteurs, assessors, rapporteurs, a department administrator, a court coordinator, and court clerks. The deputy preparation chiefs perform the same tasks as other rapporteurs and also have a coordinating role, assisting the deputy chairperson and preparation chiefs. They also work on behalf of the department head.

The Land and Environment Court of Appeal is now seeking a deputy preparation chief with good knowledge of the department's working methods and needs.

The current position is a temporary appointment lasting until December 31, 2025. The temporary position may be extended.

Job Description

• Assist the deputy chairperson responsible for the preparation organization in personnel matters, e.g., recruitment and management, including responsibility for granting leave and resolving staffing issues during the deputy chairperson's absence. The role entails specific responsibilities but no managerial authority.
• Be responsible for the development and updating of various forms of procedural support and routines for rapporteurs and assessors.
• Supervise staff in the preparation organization and be responsible for the introduction of new assessors and rapporteurs.
• Assist the department head in matters concerning operational planning, operational development, and operational follow-up.
• Prepare and present cases and matters, conduct legal investigations, draft proposals for decisions, and participate in negotiations held in the cases.
• Travel may occur in the position.

Qualifications

The Land and Environment Court of Appeal is looking for a lawyer with deep knowledge of land and environmental law and an interest and aptitude for leadership and operational development issues. Applicants should have a background as a rapporteur in the Land and Environment Court of Appeal. The work requires good administrative skills, strong leadership qualities, and the ability and interest to act as a mentor for other staff. The work requires the ability to work independently while also being able to collaborate easily with others. You should have a structured working method, a willingness and ability to perform various types of tasks, and the ability to adapt smoothly to new tasks. Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability and knowledge of the work at the Land and Environment Court of Appeal.
