The University of Gothenburg tackles society’s challenges with diverse knowledge. 56,000 students and 6,600 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract researchers and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.

The candidate will work at the Sahlgrenska Center for Cancer Research, a center within the University of Gothenburg in close association with Sahlgrenska University Hospital. The center is part of a strategic research effort within the Sahlgrenska Academy focused on cancer research and consists of a mixture of basic and clinical research projects with translational ambitions.

Subject Area

Cancer Genomics and Liquid Biopsies.

Subject Area Description

This open postdoc position is in association with Professor Anders Ståhlberg’s and Professor Karin Sundfeldt’s research groups at Sahlgrenska Center for Cancer Research. Our long-term goal is early cancer detection and to personalize the treatment of each patient. This project aims to develop and use next-generation cancer diagnostics by analyzing biomarkers in different liquid biopsies, especially blood. The project focuses on gynecological cancer types and sarcomas, and the analyses of cell-free tumor DNA, immune cells, and proteins. Our work is in close collaboration with academia, healthcare, and industry.

Duties

Within this project, you will plan, design, and perform research activities aimed at developing and using biomarker analysis in blood samples for next-generation cancer diagnostics. You will be working with clinical samples, method development, and several molecular biology techniques, especially qPCR and sequencing (NGS), as well as with experimental data. The work will focus on gynecological cancer types and sarcomas, but our solutions are generic and may be applied to any tumor entity. The work also includes project management, supervision, and communication of research data in oral presentations as well as in written reports. Interactions with other academic and industrial collaborators are also included.
