Environmental and Health Protection Officer

The Swedish Armed Forces Combat School for Defense Medicine (FSS) at the Defense Medicine Center (FömedC) in Gothenburg is a joint resource of the Armed Forces that conducts training, exercises, and drills in defense medicine both below the surface, on the surface, on land, and in the air.

FSS consists of three departments: the Education Department, the Exercise Department, and the Simulation and Method Department. The Education Department conducts courses and training while ensuring the quality of defense medical training conducted at other units in Sweden. The Exercise Department plans, executes, and evaluates training and exercises in defense medicine. The Simulation and Method Department conducts and develops defense medical simulations and pedagogical methods.

As an Environmental and Health Protection Officer, you will be placed in the Education Department.

Main Responsibilities

As an Environmental and Health Protection Officer, you will support the Armed Forces within the army, air force, navy, and home guard in minimizing diseases and non-combat-related injuries. Your work will include training area representatives and developing educational materials in written and digital formats within the subject area.

Your role will also involve training inspectors on biological risks during the transport of goods and vehicles within and between countries. Occasionally, your tasks may also require you to support other parts of the Armed Forces with your expertise. Your closest colleague in the department is an environmental and health protection inspector.

The Armed Forces are growing, and the tasks may evolve.

Qualifications

  • University degree equivalent to at least 3 years of relevant education for the position, preferably in water and food management, health protection, and environmental protection, or equivalent as assessed by the employer.
  • Good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish and English.
  • Driver's license (B).
  • At least 2 years of professional experience.

Other Information

Employment type: Permanent. The Armed Forces apply a six-month probationary period.

Employment rate: Full-time.

Work location: Västra Frölunda, Gothenburg.

Civil/Military: Civil position.

Several weeks a year, we participate in exercises. Normally, we work in our offices, but we sometimes need to travel within the country to train or develop our work area.

Start date according to agreement.

The Defense Medicine Center (FömedC) is the Armed Forces' center for the function of defense medicine, located in Gothenburg. FömedC consists of a management team, the Swedish Armed Forces Combat School for Defense Medicine (FSS), the Functional Unit (FunkE), and the Hospital Battalion (Sjhbat). The center has licensed healthcare professionals such as doctors, veterinarians, nurses, and more. Here you will find officers, reserve officers, civilian staff, and conscripts. The Defense Medicine Center is part of the Gothenburg Garrison.
