We act as a party in the assessment process, conduct environmental supervision and Seveso oversight, and support businesses and municipalities with advice in our area. In Norrbotten, we have an exciting mix of both older and new industries that we work with, and as they increase in number and complexity, we now need to expand the unit with additional staff.

About the job

We are now looking for an environmental specialist who will primarily work with supervision within Seveso and cross-border waste transport (GRÖT). You will be an important part in driving the government’s environmental policy and supporting companies in doing the right thing.

Supervision within Seveso involves oversight of larger industries, including mining and steelworks with fossil-free technology. In the supervisory work, you will assess, follow up, and work with the companies to ensure that they comply with their permits, conditions, and have a functioning self-control. You will also make site visits and thereby gain an understanding of how the various industries and transport routes function.

Norrbotten is also one of five counties in Sweden designated to work with cross-border waste transport (GRÖT). Cross-border illegal waste transport is a common environmental problem for EU member states, where close cooperation with other authorities such as the Customs Agency, Coast Guard, Police Authority, Environmental Protection Agency, and the country's municipalities is very important.

The operational supervision within GRÖT is very varied and consists of both administrative work in the office and inspections together with colleagues in the field.

Responding to referrals, working within government assignments, and supporting the authority within your area of expertise are also parts that will be included in your role.

About you

We are looking for someone who has:

• an academic education with a technical or natural science orientation, or other relevant education and/or experience that we assess as equivalent.
• experience working with risk assessments and emergency issues in hazardous operations.
• experience working in industries, emergency services, or one of our cooperating authorities, or as a consultant in the field.
• a driver's license for passenger cars.

Since the work involves a lot of contacts both internally and externally, it is important that you express yourself well in Swedish, both orally and in writing. As the work in the field involves international contacts, it is also important that you speak good English.

As a person, you find it easy to collaborate and build good relationships while having high integrity. You are self-driven, responsible, and have the ability to make quick decisions.

We consider it an advantage if you have experience in:

• working with or otherwise gained knowledge about environmental issues related to Seveso or waste transport.
• project management and/or driving processes in a complex environment.

It is also an advantage if you have knowledge of additional languages besides Swedish and English.
