Environmental Specialist with a Focus on Industry

Norrbotten faces several interesting and complex challenges in societal transformation where the County Administrative Board plays an important role.

We act as a party in the assessment process, conduct supervision, and support operators and municipalities with advice in our area. In the county, we have an exciting mix of operators that we work with, and as they increase in number and complexity, we now need to expand the unit with additional staff.

About the Job

We are now looking for an environmental specialist with a focus on industry to join our team. With us, you will work for sustainable development and be at the center of events as Norrbotten transitions its industries. You will primarily work within supervision for larger industrial establishments such as mining operations and steelworks with fossil-free technology, but also support in permitting processes within this area. In the supervisory work, you will assess, follow up, and work with companies to ensure that they comply with their permits, conditions, and have a functioning self-monitoring system. You will also make site visits and thereby gain a good understanding of how the different industries operate.

You will be an important part in driving the government's environmental policy and supporting companies in doing the right thing. Responding to consultations, working within government assignments, and supporting the agency within your area of expertise are also parts that will be included in your role.

Depending on your background and interests, other parts of the agency's work may also be relevant in your role with us. As the work with us is in constant development, the tasks may change over time, which also gives you opportunities to develop and broaden your competence with us.

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

• an academic education with a technical or natural science orientation, or other relevant education and/or experience that we assess as equivalent.
• experience working with environmental issues within the Environmental Code in industries, authorities, or alternatively worked as a consultant with environmental assessments.

Since the work involves a lot of contacts both internally and externally on a daily basis, it is important that you express yourself well in Swedish, both orally and in writing.

As a person, you have the ability to collaborate and build good relationships while having high integrity. You have a humble approach and are willing to share your knowledge and experiences with colleagues. Furthermore, you have good analytical skills and a structured way of working where you can independently drive cases forward until they are concluded.

We consider it an advantage if you have experience in:

• working with or otherwise gained knowledge about environmental issues related to industry and mining operations.
• project management and/or driving processes in a complex environment.
• goal conflicts and complex environmental issues.
