The Umeå operational area includes the closed prison Umeå, the open prison Sörbyn, and the remand prison Umeå. About 220 employees manage and develop the operations, which currently accommodate approximately 290 inmates. The largest professional group is prison officers, but we also have healthcare professionals, administrative staff, educators, production leaders, etc. In the Umeå prison, inmates are engaged in wood and metal industries, textiles, kitchens, learning centers, and various treatment programs. The Sörbyn prison is an agricultural prison. Inmates are engaged in various labor market training, learning centers, treatment programs, or work in kitchens, carpentry, agriculture, barns, sawmills, services, etc. The Umeå prison and remand prison are about a 10-minute walk from the nearest bus stop, while Sörbyn prison requires a car. Staff parking is available at all units.
