School Counselor at Glanshammars School

We are looking for a development-oriented and dedicated school counselor who wants to be part of our school in a rural environment with a good working climate and knowledgeable colleagues.

About the Position

The position is 60% as a counselor at Glanshammars School. We see that you are an engaged school counselor who wants to work closely with students and be an active part of our school's safety team. In the safety team, you work to ensure a safe and inclusive school environment for all students. This is done by being present in the corridors and during breaks to create a safe and supportive environment for our students.

As a counselor, you will be part of the school's student health team whose main mission is health promotion and preventive work. You will collaborate closely with a special educator, two special teachers, a school nurse, and all of the school's educators. You will structure and coordinate social interventions around students with various school difficulties. In your role, you will also guide teachers in psychosocial issues, work with students on an individual and group level, and have support conversations with students. Based on the student, you will collaborate with teachers, guardians, and others within the student health team, as well as with social services, child and adolescent psychiatry, and more.

As a counselor, you will work to promote attendance and well-being among students. You will have a central role in addressing student absenteeism, where you identify causes of absence and develop strategies to support students in returning to school.

Examples of Responsibilities:

• conduct support, motivation, crisis, and conflict conversations as well as investigative, advisory, and processing conversations with individual students and their families
• initiate and participate in network work around students
• map and assess the social situation outside of school for individual students
• work with groups in acute need and for preventive purposes
• work based on proven knowledge theory and evidence-based methods
• contribute to the development, implementation, and revision of action plans
• provide professional guidance and consultation to school staff
• contribute a social and psychosocial perspective to the development of the educational activities
• document and follow up in the existing operational systems

About the Workplace

Glanshammars School is one of Örebro Municipality's rural schools with about 350 students ranging from preschool to grade 6. Approximately 50 staff members work here. The school is located in idyllic surroundings in Glanshammar, close to forests and fields, about 15 km east of Örebro, with a county bus taking about 25 minutes to reach the school.

Qualifications

The work as a counselor requires close collaboration with other professionals in the student health team, which demands good teamwork skills. Furthermore, in your role as a counselor, you need to have good communication skills with both students and guardians as well as colleagues and external parties. You are responsible and drive your work independently while having a strong commitment and a desire to continue developing. In your work, you are flexible and adaptable to what the job requires. You are empathetic and attentive, with the ability to understand and meet the needs of students.

Requirements:

• degree in social work (210 credits)

Meritorious:

• experience as a school counselor
• training in MI (Motivational Interviewing)
• training and experience in ICDP (International Child Development Programme)
