City Network Technician at Kumbro

In the heart of Örebro, Kumbro operates – a company that connects people, technology, and energy to create a more sustainable society.

With a broad operational area that spans wind power, energy solutions, charging infrastructure, wireless communication, and city networks, Kumbro is a central player in building and operating the infrastructure that the owners, Örebro Municipality and Kumla Municipality, and its citizens need – both today and in the future.

– We have a long-term mission to develop a smarter and more sustainable city. Whether it’s about securing our owner municipalities' energy supply, enabling electric vehicle charging, or expanding the fiber network, our focus is always on creating solutions that benefit both people and the environment, says Johan Dietmann, Operations Manager for Kumbro City Network.

Your role as a city network technician

Kumbro is currently in a phase of change. The company is taking greater ownership of its technical infrastructure while simultaneously investing in new, modern, and future-proof technology. As this happens, the need for skilled city network technicians is growing.

– Our technicians are out in the field ensuring that the fiber network works, from troubleshooting and installation to improvements and development. They work closely with both customers and contractors and are often the ones who ensure that the technology meets our and our customers' high standards, explains Johan.

The role is far from routine – it’s about having a comprehensive understanding of the network's function and being prepared to tackle both planned improvements and urgent measures in both the active and passive parts of the network.

– One day you might be replacing equipment at homeowners' properties and the next day working on upgrading our nodes or being part of a network expansion. This role requires both technical knowledge, a sense of service, and flexibility, Johan adds.

Why Kumbro?

Working at Kumbro means being part of something bigger. Here, ideas are welcome, and the opportunity to influence is significant, whether you are new to the industry or have long experience. As a technician, you will be part of an engaged team where collaboration and knowledge sharing are a given.

– We are a small but growing organization where everyone has the opportunity to influence and contribute. This means that both junior and senior technicians are welcome to apply for the position – the most important thing is that you have the right foundational skills and a willingness to learn and contribute to our work, concludes Johan.

Do you want to be part of Kumbro's journey and work with technology that shapes the future?

Then the role of city network technician might be right for you!

Examples of tasks:

  • Installation and maintenance: New installation, replacement, and upgrading of network equipment.
  • Troubleshooting and repair: Identify and resolve network issues.
  • Fiber work: Splice, weld, and measure fiber cables.
  • Projects and expansion: Participate in technology shifts and network development.
  • Documentation: Update network maps and report actions.
  • Customer contact and collaboration: Support customers and coordinate with contractors.

Kumbro is part of the Smart Safe City project, an initiative aimed at creating safer and more connected urban environments through digitalization and innovative solutions. The project focuses on integrating smart technology into society's infrastructure, making the city network a key component of the future digital ecosystem. As a city network technician, you will play an important role in building and maintaining the networks that enable this development.

Are you the one we are looking for?

To thrive in this role, you need to be service-minded, self-driven, meticulous, and solution-oriented. We also expect you to have:

  • A minimum of a high school education, preferably with a focus on electrical/telecommunications or network technology.
  • Good understanding of fiber optics.
  • Experience working with fiber cables as well as splicing and welding fiber.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and repairing fiber interruptions and attenuation issues.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and create cable drawings and fiber plans.
  • Experience using documentation tools and updating network maps (DP/Com).
  • A valid driver's license (B-class required, BE is a plus), as the position involves travel between different workplaces.

It is advantageous if you have basic knowledge of network technology and experience with fiber installations in houses, apartment buildings, and businesses. Fiber network certification, work environment certificates (ESA, Work on the Road, Hot Work), and lift certificates or work at heights are also beneficial.
